OK.....Is it just that I'm getting older...or is it that I'm just not looking forward to the holidays this year? Don't mean to sound like a Grinch, Scrooge, etc., but I've been giving of myself, my time, my $, tothe point that I feel like I've been sucked dry by a "Psychic Vampire"! You may have heard the song, " What about ME?" Kinda how I'm feeling these days. What about me? Thoughts?

I LOVE the holidays!!!! I pull out Christmas music in October...can't help it!!!! I have taken the children to look at lights 5 times already....I have ALWAYS been this way. For, me just having a positive attitude and my christian beliefs just keep me cheery and thankful. I think, it has little to do with getting older b/c my dad is in his mid-fifties and he still sends me a card in the mail EVERY year from "santa" signed all fancy...as if I have not figured it out yet. LOL!!!! I grew up with the holidays being just a joyous time and we had very little $...except mom and dad argued about the Christmas tree until it was up correctly. We choose to think, feel and have the attitude we want...I am learning this in my class I am taking Tues nights. My thoughts. ;D

Thanks Karrie I understand where you're coming from. When my kids were little I was the same way. But my oldest is 28, with a family of her own, and my youngest is 25. I think we have gotten so caught up in the hustle and bustle of work, life, etc......we haven't slowed down to enjoy the holidays yet. On the christian thing, I understand too. I'm an Ordained Catholic Deacon. I've been on admin leave for awhile to pursue the bodybuilding thing, take care of my wife and kids, etc. , and truthfully to get away from church politics. I do believe in hope. So here's hoping things will get better

Hey Mr Beefy: Here is what I would recommend so that you can enjoy the holidays: 1. Exhange small gifts with each other- nothing requiringmajor shopping- just somthing you know the other person would like- in other words don't make it about shopping. 2. If you do #1 above then you should have more time to enjoy the holiday activities in your area (we have Zoo Lights, Botanical Gardens, etc.. all are light shows you walk through outdoors). 3. Make Christmas day very relaxed- cook something good but not extravagant. Sounds like simple steps but it's what we do now - we felt like you do a few years ago. Also- the song "What about ME?". that's funny- one of my favorite songs is by Toby Keith called "I want to talk about me!".... my wife says that song fits me very well.

BigMike: Thanks for the input....glad I'm not alone! That's funny about your wife ;D Mine calls me "Her Princess", that because of all the supplements, food prep, competition tans, hair removal, etc...that I've become "high maintenance"! I told her that's ok....just keeping working to keep me in the lifestyle I've grown accostomed to!!! Thanks again!

You`re not alone Frank,I get depressed around this time of year in a big big way, always have as long as I can remember. When I was an active drinker,it was one of my favorite times to drink to drown my blues. It alwaysd seemed like everyone else was having fun and enjoying themselves except me. I just suck it up and if the gym was open on Christmas day I would be training. I know I sound like Scroooge but I always end up feeling this way most of the time.....I usually fake it,until I make it !!

I do not think feeling down is that unusual at this time. Expectations are very high and hard to live up to... just think of it as a day to relax and eat and have fun with your family. Don't expect to all of sudden be cheery just because it's Christmas.

I get depressed too which is why I posted about things you like about Christmas...We always have a huge battle in our household,my mother is religious,my father and I are not,so we have this continual to and fro about religion vs no religion, which at its worst is very draining emotionally. If I had a partner or sO I may feel differently but right now,I feel like going into hibernation! LOL (and its not even winter)

Depression is understandable, as the holidays can intensify bad memories and losses of loved ones. I get that way before holidays myself.
But family and friends help me through it, and it is usually OK. There are usually more good things in life than bad, so we have to dwell on the positives in our lives.

Well, this is depressing. I love Christmas. It is tuff sometimes. All trhe hustle and bustle, as they say, but hey, just do what makes you and others around you happy during the Christmas season. Thats what its all about. Spreading happiness and making someone smile. Being close with friends and family. Put all the comercial stuff aside and just breath in some holiday cheer. Its not that hard. It can be quit simple if you really think about it.

I can understand how some people would feel this way. It's hard for me to empathize though because my Christmases have always been great. Sure I love to give. I really do. However, to me it's more about getting together with close family and friends, enjoying a laid back atmosphere, playing some games, reminiscing and just enjoying the Christmas spirit. It truly makes me feel like I'm a little kid again. I enjoy the decorations, the music, the movies, the gifts, family, friends, food. EVERYTHING.
Mr. Beefy, i hope you can get out of this dump. and just remember, the reason we are celebrating is not about material things but about the celebration of our Lord Jesus' birth.

Well to put the final nail in my Xmas Mood........... I came down with an intestinal virus on Xmas eve, and have been sick since. Had to take the day off work today since I can't wander far from the bathroom. Lost 8 lbs................ Here's hoping for a better 2007!

I felt depressed and lonely until I worked out Christmas day and I got a new personal record for the push press! (overhead barbell press). It was one of the best feelings ever because I have struggled with this weight for a couple of years.
