I do not wish this on anyone. What I have realized is, if you feel good stay in bed! You even try to return to a normal life and WHAM your day is done.
Thank goodness I go to the Doc on Monday. Not sure what that will do, but at lease I will be able to get some info.
I've totally given up on guessing when I will be back to work or anything else at this point.

What I did when I had it was take a good quality B complex supp for energy-definitely helped ease the fatigue-stopped me falling asleep in the uni library!

I know the least thing I felt like with mono was eating protein so i just ate lots of carbs-fruit,toast,veggies etc and LOTS of fluid... Did the doc say how your liver and spleen were? My spleen blew up huge so I wasn't allowed to exercise because it might burst... Anything you can do to boost your immune system should be a high priority..take care

I went for a follow witm my doc last night and she admitted me into the hospital for a 24 hour oservation. My blood pressure was sky high and I was severly dehydrated. I'm out now but it was what I needed. My throat was so bad I couldn't swallow and coupled with the sweating from the fever I simply dehydrated. NOw I need to be really careful

I'm improving. 3 days ago I couldn't swallow at all. During the course of the night my tongue and lips would become so dry they would crack and bleed. At one point my tonsils were almost touching one another. The throat specialist told me today if they swell up again, she will remove them. Its strange at 37 that I still have them. I can swallow now, so its all up to me to ensure I am hydrated.
Thanks for showing so much concern Beckie. I feel your suggestions to be extremely helpful.
This entire episode has made me rethink a lot of things.
I need to back off my hours at work. I need to restructure my training (I do not need to lift so heavy all the time-my joints are killing me) I need to eat a well thought out diet. I need to get enough rest each day I need to spend more time with those I love.
(I need to post more often on this board!LOL)
Thanks again

You're welcome-I had a rough time myself with it,they wanted me to quit uni but I just reduced my workload and took an extra semester to finish...definitely cut back your work hours,I'm sure a medical cert waved under your bosses nose would help

well I'd hate to see you in hospital for a long spell so I'd definitely advise getting as much rest as possible...can you take some of your annual leave or sick leave?

That is the name of the game with mono. Slow. Sometimes things happen to us to RETHINK the way our life is going. Especially with family. We sooo take our kids, spouses, mom/dad, siblings and friends for granted. I hope you keep inching your way to wellness so Christmas day is nice for you!!! One thing I wanna add is if you continue to have the cracking of the lips and any skin dryness use Vaseline-the gooey stuff- to your lips around the clock and Cetaphil or Eucerin body lotion ( I worked in dermatology/derm surgery for 5yrs.)

Beckie, I'm on a short term disability program at work. I get 4 weeks at full pay and then it drops down to 75% for the next 4 months or so. So I am covered there.
Thanks for advice Karrie, I started using the vasoline and my lips are no longer cracking, and are actually looking better. I'll look into the Cetaphil and Eucerin. thanks again.
I wonder when I'll be able to lift again and if I should think about training differantly.

My advice-don't lift while you have the really bad fatigue, then once it starts lifting, you can probably go into some lighter lifter and build up some muscular endurance. I got very unfit from having mono so doing some light cardio may also be a good bet..

I agree 100% with Beckie! If you lift while being this tired it is only going to set you back and delay your recovery. Kind of like the expression "you take 3 steps forward and 2 steps back." Make sure you are resting as often as possible. That is a BIG key to recovery!

How can I get you two by my bedside to take care me. LOL
You guys have been sooooo supportive and helpful. I cannot express my appreciation enough.
I think when I do return to the weigths it will have to be light and I will just need to build back up to my normal weights
Before this mono, I was suffering from a number of joint aches and pains My right shoulder hurt everytime I pressed anything. My elbows always need to neoprene sleeves around them, and my wrist are shot too.
I am trying to stay positive, by thinking this all happend for a reason. I am also excited about the road to get back to where I was. The journey is motivating enough.
I'm chomping at the bit, and I haven't felt this motivated in a long time.

Hope it gets better soon, Steve. And the ladies are right; does not sound quite like the right time to think of lifting yet. But you will be back.
Will try to call soon as I can. Praying for you, bud.
