I "gleaned " this from our friends at Animal Pak. I tried to clean it up a bit, but may have missed a few things, so I apologize in advance for any "flowery" language.
I thought it was quite motivational...it was to me!
THIS will carry me into my workout tonight....
Blueprint for Redemption
by The House
Looking toward the future. F___! 4th Place? As I stood on the stage for the final time that evening, the lights got brighter... And I grew weaker. Yearning for just one small drink of water or even a cheeseburger and fries. The next thing to my recollection? Fourth. I just got 4th? Did I hear right? Was I hallucinating? What the fu__? All of this pain, sweat and hard work for 4th place? As I came to my senses I finally realized that there is a purpose to 4th place. It will keep my ass grounded. Making me realize that I have to strive for 1st… It won’t just be handed to me.
BUZZ... BUZZ... BUZZ. My arm slowly moved toward the alarm clock. sh*t, it’s really not a dream. Another day another dollar. Time to punch the time clock. Time to get motivated for redemption. We all have goals, plans, wishes, even dreams. What motivates your ass to put your head to the grindstone and get the job done, and what separates you from the rest? We are all driven and want to succeed. Some of us are driven by fear, some by desire and some by failure.
Each day when I roll my tired ass out of bed at 4am I put my pants on one leg at a time, just like the other guy. I look at my 4th place hardware and get motivated. Motivated by failure—by not achieving a goal, a wish, or a dream. Every day in the back of my mind I think how I did the last time and how much better I will become the next time.
We all know that just sitting around on our ass thinking will not win competitions. Only good action and planning will take us to the next level. As I get ready for the gym, the calm before the storm, I am relaxed. I am now ready for the pain, sweat and pure torture that I am going to endure in this heavy workout.
As I start my training for Redemption I know there is only one way I can go. Up. I want to be the best not just settle for what I was, second best. But what I know that I can be and will be. My training will entail back to the basic methods. Sometimes we think that more is better, but there is a point when you must train smart.. I will not let myself slip. I will earn my stripes and put my time in. This will be my year… My year for redemption.
As you sit in the crowd wondering who that guy is, think of this. That guy, the one with his hoodie down low, staring off into the abyss. The guy with a headset on so he can create his own world free from distraction. The guy with the look in his eyes like someone just hurt his family. The guy with calloused hands from all of the back breaking work from day to day. The guy that changes the stage when he emerges from the shadows. The guy that brings the total package… He’s the same guy that would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it. You know who that guy is? He is me and this is my Blueprint. This is what made me the man that I am and will continue to build the man I’ll become.
