Oh geeze..... I always have led such a hum-drum life.. why do I have so much drama??? Here is the latest: A few weeks ago I took my blood pressure at Target waiting for a prescription to be filled for a tooth problem... it was high- like 155 over 95.. something like that. I have NEVER had high blood pressure. The next day I am getting some chest pain- tightness, feel like my heart is beating hard sometime and it lasts a week (I'm stupid AND too cheap to go to the Doc). Finally after I'm worried and my wife is worried that she will wake up to a dead body next to her, we go to the ER. EKG and chest XRAY looks fine, blood work comes back EXCELLENT. Doc diagnoses it as possible bacterial infection in the hear or heart sac and prescribes antibiotic ($50!!! for 6 pills). I go to my Doc (Whom I trust) for followup yesterday looks at everything and thinks it's acid reflux and possibly a little bit of chest cold type thing.. I've heard of this being mistaken so much but didn't think it could last 2 weeks. I am hoping he's right and after taking reflux meds I am feeling a bit better. Jury is still out but I think I'll be totally fine.. BUT now I've been off a good mass building diet and supps for 2 weeks and have lost pounds... I am SOOO mad. Anway- that's why I haven't been around posting much but back for good now.

Great that you're back, Mike. And hoping for the best for you. I'm tryng to get over a cold and virus, and two weeks later the congestion still lingers. Just rest and get better; the weight will come back.

DUDE.. The BP monitor at Target is not going to work on you. Dont worry about it. Have it taken properly before you make yourself nuts. Its not made for a BBr's arm. You should have seen what it said for me!!! Same thing happened to me so I told my dad, who is a Cardiovascular respiratory therapist, and he laughed at me. He took it manually and it was just fine

my friend had a similar experience with a blood pressure monitor-they used the wrong cuff size and told him he had dangerously high BP-so he went to the hospital and it was just fine! I hope you feel better soon-and you will gain back anything you have lost!!

I mean I took it more than once although I did notice that the machine said it's designed for arms between 9 and 13 inches.... #awtf6mm# Who has 13 inch arms???

I'm glad to hear that your doc thinks it's nothing too serious.
However I am VERY, VERY, VERY concerned that you CAN EVEN fit your arm into the thing at Target!!!
J/K but put some meat on those arms and we won't be having this problem again!!!

I don't know about you men...but I broke the Target BP cuff b/c my arms are just sooo big and AWESOME!!!! Us women here....we got you all beat!!! LOL!!!! Mike-Glad to hear so far things look good!!! NEVER trust those automatic cuffs.....we tell patients all the time to go to the local fire station and have it taken right. If the reflux meds are working that could very well be the problem...just wait and see!!!!

BMR!
I'm not sure what to say here Bro.
I've got high BP, controlled with meds. Lifting pushes it through the roof.
I've got acid reflux/MD prescribed Nexium, but I hate taking it because it shuts down the acid pumps, and then how the hell do you digest ALL the protein we eat?
Get terrible migraines quite often. Recently been getting a huge terrible pain going up the back of my neck and into my head. Normally happens under stress, pressure, exertion. Not sure what that's all about.
Had an attack going off & On for a few weeks, one that took me to the ER because I couldn't breath. Could not exhale, only inhale. They thought I was having a heart attack, ran all kinda of tests, and gave me some type of co*ktail they mixed up which made it better.
So....I guess just know that you're not alone. I keep on lifting, and competing in the hopes that with some common sense, a little science, and prayers, I will dance at mt great-great-great grandchildrens weddings!
Keep in touch with the MD, listen to your family............
See you at the gym ;D

Frank:
THanks for your reply and insight. I am hoping the reflux thing is just a temporary stress-related thing. I'm going to stay on the 'scrip the doc gave me and try going off of it in a week. My BP was check at my Doctor's on Thursday and I'm now down to normal- I really don't know what that was all about now.
What I have learned now is just to pay attention to my health and realize that while 39yrs old is not old my any means I'm not 25 either. Regular checkups with the Doc and blood work a few times a year are a good idea.

BMR:
You are right on my friend.
If I've learned ANYTHING the last 3 years of lifting, it's this..
LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
If your feeling good = TEAR INTO THE WEIGHTS If your not = REST..a day off will NOT kill you.
After all...how are we going to ever live to TIM's Ripe old age if we don't take care of ourselves?!?! ;D

Well guys I'm feeling 100% again. The reflux meds the Doc gave me have eliminated all the problems I was having. Had a terrific workout yesterday a.m. and intend on having a major one tonight. Thanks to all of you guys for your support.
