Carl,
I was at the pre judging yesterday morning. You looked great! It was a tough class for sure! The guy who looked to be the eventual winner looked very good.
Like I said you look in very good condition so don't let your placement get you down! I'm sorry we didn't get to meet, I looked around for you after your class was finished but I didn't see you anywhere. It was a big place! Good luck next weekend!

Thanks for the input Joel. The guy who won my class won the Jr. Nationals last year and placed top 3 or so the past 2 years in the Nationals. So I knew he had won the class for sure. The class was tough though. I shouldn't be so hard on myself.

Well judging by your previous pics you've made ALOT of progress this time around Carl so try not to be too disappointed. Just remember each show you do you are looking to improve your physique and conditioning and you definitely achieved that!!

I can't believe I missed wishing you good luck this weekend, I am so sorry. I think I am going to see if comp dates can be added to the calendar and a list of which board members are competing. Congratulations on obtaining your best condition ever and your trophy, now go get ready to own that stage next weekend

Hey man. Good stuff. Always remeber that your hard work and dedication earned you a trophy which means that you are one of the FEW in the whole world that busted their ass hard enough to even get up there. 4th is nothing to shake a stick at!! Beating your previous best is what counts. Just remeber that your physique puts you in a class that only about 3-4% of the rest of the world sahres with you!!!!!!!

Beating your previous best is what counts. Yes, but if my personal best makes me come in 4th out of 5 what do I look forward to? Don't want to sound like a downer but... Actually I went backwards trophy wise, which is the funny thing. Thanks for all the encouraging words everyone. I am just VERY confused right now and don't know how to handle it. I said for the past couple months no matter what I do I would not put myself down. Well I cant help it I feel like Sh** and don't want to.

In a contest,you can place first,then next year,same contest,better conditioning,and you get fifth.
The class of competitors probably improved at this show..............just acheiving your best ever shape makes you a winner.
You are only competing against your best former condition.
I think you should just focus on kicking ass next weekend Carl.........train with vengance in mind bro.

Carl, No one ever wins every show they enter, no one has never had a disappointing placement...........Ronnie Coleman could have hung it up after fininshing 15th at the Olympia, but just used that to fuel his desire to train even harder and with more focus. I have NEVER looked at placing as the determinination as to whether I was successful or not...if you beat your previous condition, you were successful. You keep doing that contest after contest and you'll be holding that First Place trophy one day soon...I guarantee that! Just stay focused, get out there next week and give it everything you got!

Carl, just look ahead to this weekend and best of luck.
Like Tim said, competition can vary greatly. A friend here did two shows in a week's time. First show he placed 3rd. next weekend, he peaked and looked even better but was 5th, Competition was much stronger the second show.
The real competition is within yourself for improvement, and if you do that then you have achieved an important victory.

Keith Man your right I should just try my hardest and play the cards that are dealt to me. Maybe that way I won't get so down on myself. I have WAY too high expectations and should lower them.

I have the same problem Carl-my expectations are too high so now I am focussing more on how I can improve ME and not think about what that means when it comes to stage time.

The HIGHEST expectations anyone can have of themselves about ANYTHING is to be BETTER than they were before! That's how you define a sucessfull life! I don't call that lowering your expectations...I call that striving to be the best you can be!

I have had a dream of doing bigger shows for the past 20 years (started competing 8 yrs ago) so I am running out of patience thats all. Tim man you can be one funny dude... you rock bro! #arockon6ha#

I can relate brother!
I did a show awhile back, that I wasn't feeling real confident about.
Now, don't get me wrong about what I'm about to say, because I don't mean it as a slam on anyone who has a disability (since I'm a disabled vet myself).
But I went into a show, and there was a guy competing against me, who had one leg shorter than the other, a hair lip, no tan at all, and appeared that he has only been working out for a few "months". Now....good for him to have the confidence to get up oon stage and do what we do........But......I told my wife.....If this guy beats me......this is my last show.... I QUIT!
Fortunately, there were only 5 guys in our class, (I did place higher then him), but he did take home a trophy
BUT....if I would have lost to him.......I don't know if I would be telling this story.

Carl, I couldnt agree more with people here! It's an old cliché but it's so true, you only compete against yourself! But it happened to me so I understand you and I know that we are not always in the mood to hear that old cliché after a contest! And you know what? From the pictures I saw, NO doubt you succeded at beating the old Carl! Congrats!
I also agree with the fact that you did'nt receive 4th place out of 5 guys… you were 4th out of the whole bunch of guys who didnt have what it takes to train and diet hard enough to complete their contest prep and register to the show!
