with so many lotteries, raffles, contests, etc. going on, even though the probability of winning any one is very small, it would seem that we would all know someone who has won something decent. My sister won a TV in a hospital lottery (do they do those in the US?). A friend of an aquaintance won a house (I don't think this counts as me knowing them). I sort of won a trip for 2 to Florida to see NCAA championships in 1998 (it wasn't actually me but the supplier for a company where I worked that won, they decided to give us the tickets, and the boss let me have them).
