wow this week was a shocker. I sent my resume to some companies a couple of months ago and this week 2 of them contacted me! both are for graphic designer positions
i have an interview tomorrow at lunch for one company. the kicker is they are located 2 floors below the place im working now and they are my companies biggest competitor. yikes, that should be interesting. its going to be very obvious when i come to work in a suit tomorrow.
another kicker is that my company just did major layoffs so if they see me "prepping" to leave, they might just fire me on the spot which wouldnt be a great thing
and the second place is a place my brother works for. very well known company and i would be in the graphics dept. they work long hours, but they get the jobs done and they would pay well...
im excited and very nervous at the same time!

Steve-O!
Congrats on the interviews!
With the company that was a competitor, you don't have a "clause" anywhere regarding confidentiality, or working for the competition, etc. do you?
When I used to be a Stock Broker, they didn't want me to have contact with ANY of my old clients when I changed firms.
Don't know much about your line of business, but I work with a LOT of lawyers!

Honestly Frank, alot of employees who work here (the original job) leave and go tot he place im being interviewed at. Its a step up. They are a better company.

Thanks Frank but what im really hoping for is my brothers place to hire me. I just found out about my brothers office interview today, so when i heard about the other one yesterday, i was going to use it as a bargaining chip with the place i work at now. they did major layoffs in my dept. so my work has tripled without a raise or anything. so i figure, ill let them see that i am a commodity and if they plan on keeping me, they would have to match or beat the new offer.
but now that this other place wants to interview me, im pulling for my brothers office because its such a better working environment. they work long hours, but who hasn't?

and i know some of you are saying "what about the fire department???"
thats still in process, but that wont happen for 2-3 years atleast. so i figure until then, i gotta make as much as i can now!

I understand Buddy!
Two "knee-jerk" reactions:
#1 Somthing about having too many irons in the fire.....
#2 "An eagle who chases two rabbits, goes home hungry"
Now..don't ask me what all that means ;D . I think it's good to have a LOT of options myself, but people always tell ME that if ai put as much effort into plan A, I wouldn't have to worry so much about plan B.
I like having plan B...and C....and....well you get the point!
Sorry if this was confusing.

Okie back!
I think it went great. He said i was very suited for the job and i run the gamut of experience! he'll contact me next week once he finishes interviewing to let me know of his decision.
now heres a question, im also interviewing for another job. what happens if i get that other job (SVC) or am waiting for tSVC's response and i want to work at SVC. what shoudl i tell the company i interviewed today at?
if he picks me for the job, i dont HAVE to accept right if i might have a shot at another place?

Good news!
Dont worry Steve, if the first company gives you the job, say yes… even if there is some chances you prefer the second opportunity. Keep you options open and think about YOU first. Believe me, companies would not feel bad changing their mind or showing you the door if they feel like it!
Congrats Steve!
