The past 2 shows I came in the best condition of my life, BUT I came in the worst place I ever have b4 out of the past 15 contests I have done. My next shows are May 5th and 12th. The question is: Do I try at the condition I am in or do I gain a few pounds and go for it???

My friend ...YOU must make that decision.
Just like workouts and diet, WE can suggest to you what works for us...but only YOU know what is best for you.
Ask yourself how you feel. Look in the mirror, physically and what do you see? Look in the mirror "mentally". and how do you feel?
Now....ask yourself what you want?
Take a look at my last journal entries buddy.
I'm not doing the next contest I started to prep for...for many reasons. I will attempt one in June, just to see if this diet is working.
BUT...nothing...I say again...NOTHING will stop me from being on stage next year...in some of the biggest shows of my life...and I WILL BE THE BADDEST MF out there!
Attitude my friend.....it's addictive. Get on board. Join us. I'm with you whatever you decide, and I'm there to help you in whatever way I can.
Now.....THINK....BECOME......and.........OVERCOME!!!

Do what you will have wanted yourself to do after it's all done.
Nothing else is good enough.

Like the other guys have said, only you can decide this Carl. Its tough competing in the NPC anyway so maybe its time to look at natural federations where you will be on a level playing field? I know Randy competes in OCB and there are many fantastic bodybuilders in that organisation,so you would be in good company.. Just my 2 cents

Just my 2 cents There are no other frederationions in Ohio except the NABBA, which doesn't meant sh*t to go to bigger comps. Other than that the NPC is pretty much it. I still think that i should come in the best condition but I just want to hear what you guys say.

What about INBA/ABA? They have a show in Columbus on April 14th? The Ohio State Natural.... I wouldn't compete in NABBA either I'm sorry you're feeling so down but I do think you look great-you probably do need a bit more muscle size if you are to keep competing in NPC because looking at the other guys in the class, your conditioning was on but the other guys were bigger...

Go INBA/ABA or OCB. You would do well there. How far do you think any natural bodybuilder could really go in the NPC?

Go INBA/ABA or OCB. You would do well there. How far do you think any natural bodybuilder could really go in the NPC? I have tried a couple other organizations in 2004 and 05. The problem is that there are none anywhere close to me. I don't have any vacation to go very far away either. A couple of the Natural orgs go by height class which I refuse to do because I tried that as well and I feel that it is totally unfair. I pretty much know what I am going to do for the NABBA and the next NPC show. I just wanted to hear other peoples thoughts thats all. Thanks for the responses!

First Carl, let me congrats you for the package you brought at your last contest, GREAT JOB! As far as your question goes… I would tell you that conditionning is the name of the game! So I wouldnt add pounds in prevision of your next shows… but at the opposite, refine even more your physique! In my opinion, in between two contests (during the season) is not the best time to try to add some quality mass… it often seems to end up messing the conditionning… and since it is an illusion sport, it's not a good idea! The WNSO is also a natural federation with events near you: (Look at the US Section) www.wnso.com/events/schedule/Mo

Mo,said what I was going to say before I could type it up.
Go for conditioning ,forget what you weigh, and kick ass!!
You were in two tough contests dude.you cannot judge your past placements by these current contests.
I polaced in the Masters Nats .........got 4th. out of 5 guys, came back far far better and got 5th. out of 8 guys.
I fell down one spot as far as placement goes, but I was far harder with more density and the class was light years better when I placed 5th.,as opposed to the year I placed 4th.
I`d move up to lightweight class after I finished up this year as a bantam if I were you.........just my opinion.
Anyway,go for it bro,and just give it all you`ve got as usual.

Hey Mo I didn't see anything anywhere less than an 8 hour drive. That is way too far. But I will still keep my spirits up. I think there is an ONABF show this summer around here.
I will still come in the best condition that I can but about 2-3 pounds heavier for the next 2 shows.

Carl, I gotta admit these guys are right. I've only done 5 shows, but I've been lucky. I've always placed in the top five. However, I've rarely competed in the same class! I started as a bantam, did a show as a welterweight, lightweight and even a middleweight (missed weight by two pounds!). Then of course, as masters. The judges do look for conditioning and being shredded. But, my own body dysmorphia is that I want to be BIG and shredded at 5'2". It's been tough! So I'm settling for lightweight and beefy right now and see where I go. I tried to get up to light heavy, but no way can I cut at my age and keep that mass. Plus, I have to watch my BP, and stuff.
Go with the mirror. Listen to these guys, and put together your own plan!

I can honestly say this - IF you are considering the May 5th show in Canton know that historically they have favored a much more ripped condition than a larger more complete version. Last year being a bit of an anomaly, even though the overall winner was shredded I';m not sure how he won. But that's another story. The Canton has been won by lightweights, middleweights, light-heavy ( a completely natural friend of mine) and then the heavyweights. I could go through the list year by year butmy point is they will typically pick the winner based on conditioning. I have seen MUCH MUCH better bodybuilders get looked over simply because someone else was more shredded even with less shape, symetry and size. And these are not guys out of condition just not Munzer shredded. So if you do plan to do the Canton know that your condition will likely be looked at much more than if you add a couple of pounds.
I've been going to that show for years and honestly feel this is a fair opinion.

I tend to agree with Tim and Mo. I also agree with you that in our area the NPC, is just about the only game in town. Other organizations just don't run their shows as well. But remember you can only do the best you can do. Placings are so dependent on who shows up. The only thing we can do is be are best.
