I hurt my back again. I didn't lift yesterday, and I didn't even really do anything physically taxing at all. And all day my back was fine. Today it is bad. WTF?? Lower back.
Must be cuz I'm 38.

Already 38… old man? Seriously we cant always see a direct cause-effect corellation between a workout and an injury, but when we are serious about lifting weights as you are, this is something that sometimes happens... at any ages Rich! Take care!

Sometimes it's nothing to do with lifting. After the last heavy squat day, I felt great. Then out of nowhere my back started to bother me. I would stand it would be fine, then I would sit and it hurts? Odd. However, I noticed that I do sit pretty awkward- and that used to be my comfortable way to sit. But over time (cumulative) it probably aggravates your back. Most back injuries, if not from lifting, are from just overall cumulative stress of always carrying something (correctly or not), compressed spine (proper lifting, but heavy loads in the gym for example), or sitting oddly, Right now, I'm in my once "favorite" chair, with a pillow behind my back because the chair is too deep and allows me to slouch and that is what has been hurting my back of late.

What YB said is all VERY true!!!! ;D Sometimes just sleeping wrong can cause an aching back. We do not realize how much we use our back, in just about 100% of all we do!
A heating pad works wonders....it opens up the blood vessels and gets the blood flowing again, as well as Advil/Ibuprofen. I hope you feel better soon!

My back has been a mess and I always hurt it outside the gym and at times had no clue why it was so bad.
Good luck Rich,I hope it clears up quickly.

my back is 'delicate' too and often just cleaning the house sets it off! #arollseyes3zc#

Another thing: Rotate your mattress!!! This is a big thing, that most people (including me) never think about in relation to their back. With my now hurting, it suddenly occurred to me that it was time to rotate my mattress, as the position it was in was starting to have a sag in it. Definitely not good for the back as you lay on it for 6+ hours/night.

I can deadlift and squat heavy with no problem and then I get up one morning and wonder what the heck happened to my back!
