I made a decision last night in relation to competing. I was sitting here thinking that it's going to cost me about 1000.00 ! bucks to do the Nationals in total. I am in the shape of my life right now and after the West Palm I feel I should take advantage of that and get on stage soon......If you live here, you know that the Southern States is a HUGE show down here. It's one of the top amatuer shows in the country and gets alot of media coverage. This year it's being held on the 14th of July, which is a week before the Master's Nationals. I have decided to do the Over 40 and Over 50 in the Southern States instead of the Master's Nationals for several reasons: 1: Economics..... doing the Southern States saves me about 900.00 over doing the Nationals. 2. Prestige...although the prestige is huge for winning the Nationals with the opportunity to get a pro card, the Southern States is nearly as prestigious. It is a Level 5 show, recieves national coverage, and is referred down here as the "Southern Nationals"...to win that show would be a huge accomplishment on it's own merits. 3.NABBA Nationals... I am already committed to the NABBA show, doing both the Over 40 and Over 50 in that one too. I'm even going to contact Bob Gruskin to see if I can do the Open Short Class as well. That is a terrifically run show from what I have heard from those who have done it. It is a National Level show...and the prestige of winning that would be huge. And you could even get an invite to do the Universe! I can dream anyway!! BIG PICTURE: I'll be stepping on stage 3 times this year...including National level competition. This year is my year to get back into the thick of things on the National Level and compete for an extended period of time...no more long breaks from competition...I'm here to stay this time. The NPC Nationals will always be there for me to do any year I choose, more than likely next year. Doing things in this manner will get me right back in the mix and hopefully some good name recognition within the Master's ranks, nationally, that will serve me well in future competitions. AND I can still do these three shows and not kill myself financially. I have really set my mind to making a big impact on the National scene in the Master's divisions for a while to come, and this is where it starts. Keith

I totally understand where you're coming from Keith. Its very expensive traveling and competing! I say go with what works best for you. Besides the Southern States is a very prestigious contest and you'll make a very worthy winner!

Keith, I don't blame you one bit. I think you made the best decision given you situation. Also, Southern States show is a tough show and the competition there is top notch. It would be a great achievement to do well at that show!
Good Luck Keith
