Really sucks, brother. If you paid in cash, then it is a dead end.
Probably showed you bogus credentials.
Always get a business card, and tell them you will get in touch. Never accept on the spot. Call and make sure they are reputable. Pay by check or money order always. Without a paper trail, it is a hopeless situation.

Maybe they can be traced through their bank? There has to be a bank endorsement on the cancelled check.
Just hate to think of you out that money.
