beep......beep.......beep...........SLAM
I groan as I turn the damn alarm off and look at the time 4:30 am, grmmmm, I could go back to sleep, but my son and nephew are depending on me to get my old ass out of bed.
The legs swing around and up I go. grmmm, another growl. I wash up and wake up damian, "lets go buddy"
We trudge downstairs and I put on a pot of coffee, 1st things 1st after all, I take my omega 3, and 6's, and vitamins. I pick out my workout clothes. I pour the coffee into the thermos.
Damian and I get into the car. He's going on and on about the newest video games, and I am still half a sleep. How can he be so wide awake at 5:00am?
I get to Marks house and the sun has begun to peek up over the horizon. Mark lives around farm country and its beautiful, there is heavy thick fog lying in the low areas making it look a little earie.
Mark jumps in the car and I pour the coffee. We discuss todays workout, "barbells or dumbells?" I ask. "can we use barbells cause my right pec is still acting up." I ask. The two of them just nod.
We get to the gym, and descend into hell, each of us touching the picture hanging above the stairs of the powerlifter benching 600lbs.
We set up the bench and we perform our warm ups.
I am the old man of the group, joints are already aching, I slip on the elbow sleeves, and wrist wraps. The two things I can no longer bench without. The boys, and that all they really are, are getting excited to do their set.
135 for 10, for me and mark, 85 for damian.
175 for 10 for mark, 115 for damian, 225 for 20 for me.
now lets get to work. The mood is a little flat this morning as I try and pump them up.
Damian is first,
3 sets of 135 to failure. Even though damian is new to training his heart is strong. He pounds out rep after rep, never giving up, even when I think he is done and I try to rack the weight, he grits his teeth and pounds it some more.
Mark works up to 275 and does 3 sets for 6. He has gotten stronger, The bar goes up and down like a piston, pffttt, with every rep. I remind him why he is here, "you remember all those punks in school? telling you, you can't do it?? Show em now!!!"
Now its the old man's turn. "Hey" says Mark, "what is that crackling noise every time the bar goes down?"
"that would be my elbow" I say
315 for 10 reps (feeling good)
today maybe the day
405 for 2! (although Mark helped ever so slightly at the very botttom.)
back to 315 for 10
Inclines next,
3 sets
Damian 85 for 10 hard pounding no surrender reps
Mark 185 for 12 reps, of blood pumping intensity
old man 275 for 6 reps, and on the last set I manage 9!
Next up a torture triset Mark and I designed.
Pec decs, cable crossovers, and hammer incline press.
We load all three up and begin. The object is to start after the first person finishes his first set of the first exercise. We go until 3 rotations are done.......................
and then we are done...................
20 minutes on the treadmill at the steepest incline
we finally call it a day. We walk up the steps into the daylight.
another wokout done.
