Well I didn't want to say anything prior to the formal offer for fear of jinxing things. But I just got offered a job working at a Gold's Gym - franchised by GLOBAL FITNESS HOLDINGS - The Largest Golds Gym Franchisee In The World. So I've read.
Either way they want me to come on full time to sell personal training packages and then move into a Training/Fitness director position. My current job and background have me well suited for this and I feel I could do a very good job as this is something I truly believe in - helping people to achieve their goals. I would not be doing the direct training and that is probably a good thing. But explaining to the clients the huge benefit of having some help to get started the first year or so is something that I can relate to very well.
The jobis almost 100% commision based so I am only willing to give them part time hours until I can prove to myself this is a suitable career move. The one gentleman I talked to first is a musclehead like us and he was willing to show me his pay stubs - there is PLENTY of money to be made. I just want to test the waters and my current day job boss is on board with this. He knows I have a dream of someday opening my own place and this is a good step in the right direction.
Soooo, I will be working a BOATLOAD of hours starting in two weeks and training will have to be modified - all this and possibly contest prep, we'll just see how it goes. I am planning an average week of 70+ hours not counting an hour or two drive time each day. So it will be a rough few of months to see if this is a go or not but I feel I need to do this for me and my wife. That and I am mentally getting beat down at my current job and it's starting to effect other aspects of my life. I need to get out.
So time will tell and I am keeping my fingers crossed and my prayers loud!
Wish me luck.
Jeremy

Jeremy! Good Luck Bro!
I worked straight commission for two years as a stock broker. Feast or famine. I did have a few pay days that the bank manager actually challenged the source of my income, thinking I was doing something shady! I guess that can happen when you net over $5k in one day!
Hope it all works out for you. Make sure you have your benefits covered too. If you're considered an indivdual contractor vs an employee......rules are very different.
Keep us posted!

Frank Thanks Frank and everyone else too!!! They actually have a good benefit package, though it my cost slightly more than I am paying right now (15-20$) the coverage I believe is better and I can customize the plan to my needs. Having only my wife and I, we don'thave to worry about kids needs, we know we won't be running to dr oevery 2 months and we can curtail the paln as needed. Thanks for bringing up that very important item. So far it looks to be a good start in a direction I want to move toward. I'll definitely keep the board updated as i progress along with this. Jeremy

Congrats on the job offer! I work several jobs, one of which is on commission-with that one I have to set myself financial targets to stay on the ball. Its a good idea to start out part time but I think you know the industry well and long term you will be ok.

Think you will do really well, Jeremy. Part time is the right way to go for now, since it is commissions only. Hopefully, you will turn it into a career.
Sounds like they are very lucky to have you. Good luck and keep us posted!

Smart move Jeremy!
I'm doing something similar, having my office work during the day, and doing diets and training plannings for athletes at night! It's a strange mix, but I like that and it doesnt involve risk for my main career.
Good succes!

Thanks everyone! I've been out of town for the past two days and just got in. Figures this is the first thing I do - check out the WOTW site!!!
I just found out the one fella I talked to - the other bodybuilder is going to stay at the other location - turns out they are going to utilize "us meatheads" in both locations.
I have to go in this weekend and meet with my direct supervisor and get the lay of the land and put in an order for my GOLDS GYM uniform!! WooHoo - - I think I'll order the shirts in a MEDIUM! ;D
Anyway - I'm getting that nervous excitement feeling everytime the subject comes up and I get to tell someone about it.
As Karrie said - I do hope it's the start of something. Training may actually get a jump start though.
I am figuring 6am wake up - gym by 6:30 after protein shake (the current gyms's only three blocks from home) training for 45-60 minutes. Off to day job at 7:30, shower there. It's only 3 miles away.
But the solo training mayhelp me break out of the rut I've been in with my partners. New movements may help some laggin bodyparts and I can tailor the wourkout to my needs instead of being "considerate" of the other guys.
Then if I am lucky enough I can catch some cardio for 30 minutes later in the evening or prior to closing catching a small workout like calves or abs, etc.
This may be a jump start for a better career and a better body!!
Thanks again everyone.
Jeremy

Don't forget about us! ;D Mark I certainly won't be forgetting about anybody but I do think my free time will be non-existant for a few months. Cheri and I were just talking to my girl/friend about our friends who live in Canton and how we should get together down at "7" for some 'tinis'!!!! Of course we would have to arrange this for a Sat night. It does look like I will have some Sat evening time after say 8pm So it just looks like I will have to suffer on Sunday mornings if I want to be social at all. I'll call you soon. Jeremy
