I am sorry I have to let off some steam, My work is punishing me(i am a truckdriver) 2 weeks ago they called me in to work the dock on fri which is fine. I was in the 12th hr and the terminal manager said they had work for me on Sat. We never work Sat this was extra. I said no I have family obligation that day. So they worked the guy under me. Well to find out yesterday they have been working lower people around me, which I questioned the union about and they said since we are considered casual they can do that. Well it has been going on 3 weeks and I worked 5 days in that time. I was told by the terminal manager that I should have cancelled my plans that this comes first. I told him I have sacrificed family events too long when I was a long haul trucker and I will never sacrifice family again due to trucking, I also told him I never miss work drive in any weather and never complain and this is how I get treated. The one that pissed him off was when I told him I drove more miles backwards than most of these f**Ks drove foreward. He started to raise his voice, and I told hime he does not intimidate me because my experience will let me drive anywhere anytime anyplace. I will hold out till Oct after my show them leave and drive for someone else. Hopefully I will be able to get out of trucking which is what I really want. I guess since i wont sacfrice family they will do it for me with money. Sorry for complaining to all who reads this.

Sorry to hear this, Bob. have seen and been in many situations when the loyal steady worker is kicked around. Seniority and job performance should count for something.
Hope things will work out one way or another.

Bob, I totally undersatnd man.....been there done that. I guess the only thing I can share is my experience. As someone who is almost 50, has greown children and grandchildren. Just like bodybuilding, sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do. You may not want to eat dry chicken for weeks, but to reach your goals, you may have too. I'm not saying take the BS, just make sure you have something solid lined up before you go. That may take time. Gotta do what ya gotta do. I once let my emotions (and my anger) get ahead of me, and quit a job cold turkey. Took awhile to get back on my feet financially after running up too many credit cards to make ends meet. I've been at my current job for 27 years, and can retire when I'm 56. So in the big picture everything worked out ok in the end. Have faith brother. Vent any time. We're here for you. Stay calm, think things through, and get the support of your family behind you. You already have ours

Your priorities are in the right place, which in the short and long run are what's important. Sounds like you know what to do, just bide your time until it's right. Best of luck.

alot of employers are doing this down here-they are expecting employees to make sacrifices for work over and above the call of duty. I once worked for a company that expected me to do the jobs of 3 people without any extra pay and the outcome was a breakdown-they didn't care as long as their work got done. I'm sure the right job will come along when you least expect it! I work 3 different jobs now and am the happiest i've been in a long time.

It's getting like that everywhere, even state govermenat agencies are trying to squeeze every last drop out of every worker. They scream and cry over slipping standards and high turnover and then run out and hire young and dumb, for half what they are paying senior worker, usually part time or contract so they can save money one benifits.
stay strong, dont let them find excuses to hammer you and just get thru. You will win in the end that way.

I'm glad you sticked to your priorities Bob! I cant believe that some companies still use intimidation… do they really think that it will help them in the long term? Doing an honest job is something, but doing it at the expense of your familly for an employer that doesnt respect you is something else…
Good decision!

One thing I know for sure is I will not miss family functions nor family outings again due to trucking. When I was over the road I spent numerous Christmas's, Thanksgiving's, Birthdays sitting in truckstops on the phone explaining to the kids why I wasnt home. I missed a lot with my children due to this job. When I got out of it the first time and worked making furniture I was happy (I met my now wife there) but they closed up in 2004 and I kinda was forced to come back into this (gotta keep the family fed) My wife went to school after the place closed. I better stop I can hear the violins starting to play..lol
