Just to let everyone know, Keith is 2 for 2. He won his class and the overall in the over 50 class. They had a pose down with all the masters classes and he lost this by 1 point to the over 40 winner who weighed 263. This is quite a feat at the Southern States. This is one of the toughest amateur shows in the country.
Congratulations!

I was at the show and saw Keith do his thing! He looked amazing, although still a tiny bit flat. I feel that he is capable of filling out just a tad more and he would dominate by an even larger margin! His structure is beautiful and his conditioning outstanding! With a few more carbs in his system he could be even fuller and just as hard!
As for the heavyweight...the guy was a monster. Very tough to beat. However, MC gave him a solid run for his money!
Amazing that at age 51 this man continues to improve! What an inspiration to everyone!

He spilled over a bit Friday night and we adjusted things to bring the sharpness back. There was only a 1 pound difference from Friday night till Saturday morning. He hit his peak dead on. I think he can make some awesome gains in this next year and be a real threat at the Masters Nationals next year.

Just got back guys........here's my take on the show:
First, the level of competition was TREMENDOUS. 110 athletes and 107 of them looked awesome.
My class:
The guy I beat in the lightweight class was a former Ohio state champion. I actually beat him unanimously, which I was very pleased with. Of the 4 Middleweights, 2 were really good and the guy that won was excellent, but I knew I had him beat, proportioin wise and conditionally. The heavyweight winner was in great shape, in fact, he placed 3rd in the NPC Master's Nationals Over 50 sometime in the last 2-3 years. ( can't remember when he said for sure). I knew it was going to be between me and him for the Overall. I felt very confident as all the feed back I had recieved after the prejudging was that, again, proportion wise and in terms of conditioning, I had him beat. And everyone said it was close from the front, but when we would turn to the back I would nail him. But I never count on anything until I have that trophy in my hand!! Well...it turned out like everyone had said...even though he was a heavyweight and outweighed me by 40 pounds he could not out-muscle me, as proportionally I had him beat, and in particular from the back...they said when we hit the back double in comparisons it was OVER! I was thrilled to win the Overall..........this is one of the top shows in the country and to win your weight class is a significant achievement...to win the Overall is a tremendous accomplishment given the level of competition.
My condition: In all honesty I came into this show as good as I possibly could have at this time. I base this on two points: 1. Knowledge of my body..........I could "feel" that I was fuller and tighter...when I was pumping up I literally felt myself blowing up...so much fuller, 5 pounds heavier, yet with BETTER conditioning than at the West Palm with cuts, separation and veins everywhere. Just about everyone in the pump up area made a comment on my condition,...I knew I had nailed it. 2. I had the opportunity to speak with several judges I know well after the show, each one of them having been a judge at the West Palm...an to a man, they're reaction was "fuller, bigger, even more cuts and separation, AND spot on, freaky conditioning." Now these were the judges who had seen me three weeks earlier and they were totally impressed by the improvement I had made in three weeks...in fact each one of them told me I was ready to step up and do the Master's Nationals Over 50 right now..and given the fact that I'm holding off until next year, they thought with the improvements I'll make over that time and with the type of conditioning I come in with I have a real shot to take it all!!! I can't tell you how much that feedback from them meant to me!
Eric Brugh is a dietary wizard............I have worked with him on pre contest diet strategy for 2 shows now and here are the results: 3 weight class and 3 Overall wins!: ( West Palm Master's Over 50 and Overall, West Palm Open Middleweight and Overall, Southern States Over 50 Lightweight, and Overall )..... It just can't get any better than that! And Eric says he still sees me carrying an additional 10-15 pound with the same conditioning! And the great part is I KNOW he will get me there...I have COMPLETE confidence in him. He knows my body perfectly now and it's unreal how he can make the slightest adjustments and the results are right there in front of me within 20 minutes.
To say I am excited would be an understatement, and this is JUST THE BEGINNING!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who has offered congratulations and words of ecouragement. Your support is truly appreciated.
Keith

I think he can make some awesome gains in this next year and be a real threat at the Masters Nationals next year. I am just going by what I visually saw before me. He looked better and more filled out than in the last show, but still looked like he had a bit more room. I actually think that at 4 weeks out he has a more impressive look from the pics I saw...fuller and just as hard. However, that is just my opinion. Keith was certain he was at his best, and that is what is most important. Also, you have been handling his diet and know his body in that respect better than I. I am sure that with the continued tag-team of your diet strategy and my training strategy that he will continue to improve for years to come.

I actually think that at 4 weeks out he has a more impressive look You think he looked better at 4 weeks out then on stage? I think he could hold closer to that type of fullness and would present better onstage. This is just my opinion of how I feel he would look better. He was already so conditioned 4 weeks out that he appeared stage ready, but looked larger and thicker. I think he can hold another 5-7 lbs without sacrificing much condition right now. However, please understand this is not a criticism as you are doing an AMAZING job dialing Keith in. In other words, there was an issue of Flex magazine that showed pics of Phil Heath at 225 lbs a few weeks out of the Arnold. At the show he got down to 218 lbs. Yes, he was a BIT sharper, but I felt he looked better OVERALL at 225. His conditioning was almost as good, but his muscles pushed against his skin much harder, and it made him appear much more formidable. I think he would have been 3rd or 4th rather than 5th if he kept his weight where it was.
