As you guys know my love for low volume/ high intensity training. Well! all that ended yesterday as I was owned by my friend Sandy. The only common thing between us is that both of us are big proponents of strength training and both are fu*ked in the head to a certain degree (retarded) lol. This guy is a staunch supporter of volume training. Here goes...... we were scheduled to do back workout starting with deadlifts. Now generally I do 2 to 3 sets max in deads and then move on to another exercise. Here was the sequence we used yesterday Done barefeet, without straps, with the aid of chalk....... 1 135 x 5 2 225 x 5 3 315 x 5 4 405 x 5 5 455 x 2 ( I was screwed by this time) I thought we were done but no my friend had a different plan.... 6 455 x 2 7 365 x 12 8 315 x 15 9 315 x 12 ( Aimed for 15 but miserabely failed at 12) 10 225 x 25. That's it. Let me tell ya I was F..KED. I couldn't stand straight. Everything from traps, lumbar, glutes, hams, forearms was trashed. Tried doing pullups after this but could barely get 5. lol. Although he went on to do barbell rows and chins followed by shrugs. I was toast after pullups. Got Owned ;D .

AWESOME....but I am surprised you can even stand today! Your butt was kicked! I have never done deads without shoes and socks on, so I too, am curious to know what that was like?

My idea of doing deads bare feet was simple. In the past I have used the regular soft soled running shoes in which the primary function is to absorb the impact and resistance generated. When driving the feet hard in the ground and pushing hard the feet mash down into the shoes. The pushing force is lost to a certain degree which in turn can affect the lift. When I tried barefeet to my amazement I found better base & the former problem was taken care of. Try it for yourself to see and feel the difference.
Using flat, hard soled shoes are great as well. I need to buy a pair. By the way that day I did my personal best of 455 at the bodyweight of 171 pounds and my friend did 475. Sob is quite near to the 500 p club, lol.

I was squatting and deadlifting in a cross training shoe and the flat shoes made a huge difference for me. CONGRATS on your new personal best of 455!!! ;D
