Double Down 2007 Olympia Weekend Mens Finals SEPTEMBER 29: The 2007 Mr. Olympia came down to the final round, as Victor Martinez pushed Jay Cutler to the limit before coming up a point short. Cutler, who admitted he was a little off on Friday night, charged back at the Saturday finals, becoming a multi-Olympia winner on the same night when perhaps the sports greatest champion, Ronnie Coleman, made his final bow on the O stage, finishing fourth and getting two standing ovations from the sold out Orleans Arena crowd. In third place was Dexter Jackson, the 2005 and 2006 Arnold Classic champ who earlier this year lost that title to Martinez. It was a validation for The Blade that he is still a force to be reckoned with, as he beat out Coleman, a hard-charging Dennis Wolf in fifth, and Marvelous Melvin Anthony in sixth. Perhaps no one made a bigger stride in this contest than Wolf. The German was a huge crowd favorite, and showed every ounce of his future Mr. Olympia potential. The crowd booed at his placing (viewing it as too low), and he also won the Bodybuilding.com Fan's Choice award with 32% of the votes cast (Martinez was second at 27%). For blow-by-blow coverage, check out the Flex forums under Gossip, where we posted prejudging commentary by Editor-in-Chief Peter McGough, Chris Cormier and Flex Staff Writer Allan Donnelly, as well as finals reports as the decisions went down. 2007 MR. OLYMPIA Top 10 1) Jay Cutler 2) Victor Martinez 3) Dexter Jackson 4) Ronnie Coleman 5) Dennis Wolf 6) Melvin Anthony 7) Silvio Samuel 8) Gustavo Badell 9) Johnnie Jackson 10) David Henry

Thank you Tim!
I had the opportunity to see the show on my computer last night and I have been positively surprised by the judgement! I mean, my favorite physiques were Wolf's, Jackson's and Martinez's... but from a IFBB criterias, I had the same Top 6 (but would have interchanged Ronnie and Denis)
Tim, in my opinion, from the Front, Denis was Mr. O, but his back was softer than Dexter's, Martinez's and even Jay's. So maybe we could say that the over best package (Front-back + Mass-Cut) was Jay and Martinez.... mass has been rewarded more than cut with these two!

You can mark myself as another who had Wolfe Champ. I was in AWE when I saw Wolfe come out. DEF was #1 in my book. I actually had Victor champ cause he looked better than Jay to me. POLITICS? Prob. The best was how Ronnie went out, they let him talk after his 4th place finish and it was awesome and emotional. Great stuff.

In the ten years I've been following the O, I would have to say this years was the worst across the board. Guys were completely out of shape (Jay and Ronnie, Melvin), placings rigged/fixed (Wolfe not winning, and Jay actually winning), and the coverage compared to years passed was horrible. :-\ Too bad about some of the guys. I thought Victor should have placed ahead of Jay, but even that didn't happen. Milos had a good rant over at BBing.com, and I would have to agree with him. But this O sucked for the 10 I've seen/heard.

I agree Dennis Wolf should have won! He bears a striking resemblance to Dorian!

Much as I like Jay, from the photos it looked like Dexter won it. He was hard as a rock and well proportioned. Wolf a close 2nd and Victor 3rd.
Jay looked better at night, but based on prejudge I thought he would be 4th at best.

I have never liked Jays physique-its not balanced and looking at the pic you posted it appears he's had a torn pec at some point... Dennis Wolf is the 'new' face of what pro bodybuilding should be about

Agree about Wolf, Beckie. I can see him being the O winner at some point. Looks like it is Victor's turn after Jay, then hopefully Dennis.

OK, I watched the replay of the Olympia on Bodybuilding.com and I simply do not think Jay should have won. I wouldn't even have him in the top six!
Pretty sad lineup overall this year in my opinion. Its pretty bad when these guys are supposed to be the ultimate!
I'm so old school, I miss the 70's and 80's Olymipia's!

Too true, Joel. I love the Golden Age. You know, the time when bodybuilders' chests stuck out past their stomachs.

They will probably GIVE it to Jay thru 2010. Let him have a 5+ year run with it then give it to someone else. I hate to say it but the O sucks in my opinion. Piss pore judging if they even judge.....Wolf looks fantastic in those pics.
My question is how can someone when with a torn pec that looks like hell?
just my 2 cents

Jay once said that he didn't want to compete past 35, and he will be 35 next year. He may go for one more, but that would most likely be it.
But Jay is hardly the first one to win a questionable decision. One of Dorian's wins came with a torn bi, and even Ronnie was not at his best in one of his. It is just judging mentality.
True, I miss the Olympia era of Larry Scott, Sergio and the other guys. Hope that Dennis Wolf can lead us back to that.

There is something I realized by attending an IFBB show… your idea of who is the winner changes a lot when you see the comparaison round! I mean, I remember seeing J. Jackson and D. Henry in the individual presentation (before pre-judging) of a 2004 IFBB show and telling myself: "Wow, these two are full, round and conditionned, I cant see how someone would beat them"! But when I saw them compared to bigger guys, I changed my mind… and maybe by only seeing the routine round of the Olympia, this is what happen once again!
I'm not a fan of Jay's physique at all, absolutely not, (Blocky physique, large waist line, not as conditionned as he could) but we must give him something: he is one of the more massive guy... while having a correct condition. So i'm not saying that I would have him as the winner… but I'm also not complaining to see him as the winner this year.

Personnally I agree with Gerry Dexter should have won. Let me make my case. Dexter is massive (for his frame), and proportionate with very god symmetry. He was also the most conditioned of the top 5 (if not the entire show). He is underappreciated! I also agree that the O's of the past were better. In the 80's the Mr. Olympia really became a great show, in which everyone showed up in shape. I would say from 82-88 those were the best show! I have seen them all and they were all fantastic! In the 90's I would say 92,93,95,96, but after that too much muscle distortion became the regular. I mean Ronnie was/is great but after 99 he just became too big. Yes I said too big. Flex destroyed his physique in the later years of his career, as did cormier. I would love to go back to the physiques of the 80's. But overall Dexter should have won, and if he had that would have spoken volumes for putting this sport back on the right track!

Amen, Steve! Guess great minds think alike! ;D
I think the world of Jay, but Dexter looked the most like a Mr O to me. True, size became the mindset through he 90s and in this decade. Lee Haney was big, but he had a proportined and conditioned look. I'm happy for Jay, but am still hoping we can go full circle and get back to that.
Even for Jay, he looked his absolute best at the 99 Ironman, where he was 3rd but should have been higher and the 01 Olympia, whci I still think he had Ronnie beat. After Jay won the 02 Arnold, he seemed intent on catching up to Ronnie size wise and got progressively bigger. So what does that say about the sport that Jay had to get up to 265-270 before he finally won the O?
But I miss the "good old days"!

I think we finally have found out what the limits are for size alone without consideration to other factors- Jay was huge this year, but simply had no cuts above the Waist. I think he won on his legs- the rest of the top 5 didn't have calves. With a few exceptions- Wolfe and a couple of the smaller guys, the quality S U. C K E D.
