The gym where I have been working out ( Thank god! I have found a better place to workout now) has to get biggest bummer of the year award. Here's why.......... Young girls and ladies occupy the treadmills and crosstrainers for hours and yet wonder why they looking the same or worse year round. These are the general intellectually inclined comments : 1 Weight training makes me look like a man and will make me bulky and muscular. 2 Doing deadlifts. pushpress. free bar squats etc can injure you. 3 If at all you do weights then be sure it has to be light enough so one doesn't break into a sweat and smudge their two inches thick makeup. ;D 4 One girl was working out wearing heels. Reason : Jenniffer Lopez's secret of a big firm butt. 5 Compound movements are a waste of time. You are better off doing abs. obliques and cardio for hours everyday. 6 The only way to flatten a tummy is to do countless situps day in day out. Guys are no less.......... 1 One guy comes up to me and says I have really lost weight. I ask him how. He says by skipping breakfast and dinner. 2 " I don't want to get too big hence i don't need to train heavy" 3 " I don't do squats because 1 I have a back problem 2 My knees hurt 3) My legs grow too big and I am unable to find pants that fit. 4 High reps are for definition and the best way to get lean and shredded. 5 I am better off doing isolation exercise because I like the feel of it. Jesus Christ! I am so fu*king frustrated. Even most of the trainers there are a bunch of pussies who themselves don't train at all or worse don't train with basic movements. My lady client was doing a deadlift of 155 pounds with picture perfect form and this female trainer comes to me and says " why do women need to do deadlifts" Oh! I forgot the classic. I don't believe in eating carbs. They make you fat. I am better off with only protein. Who has the time to eat solid meals. Protein shakes are so convinient and they feel so light.

Why care? Seriously- aren't you there for your own good? I'm not a competitive bodybuilder but even so, I go to the gym for me. I lift my weights and eat my diet. If somebody asks me for a tip, I might offer it. But otherwise, I just tune that stuff out because, if I don't, that's time I spent in the gym not focusing on my results. And despite all the dumb things 95% of people do at the gym... at least they're there and not on the couch with wings and chips.

You are right Fit… but since they are not interested in learning the best practices, they wont see concrete results… and they are gonna be back on the couch before the next 6 months!

SIGH....I see this all the time. I used to get worked up and want to help everyone. Now...I just put my headphones on, blinders on (the focused intense look that causes people to think your a dick...hey if they don't know me...it doesn't really matter does it?), and do my THANG!
I find the people that talk to me outside the gym are actually seeking more advice than the people I see at the gym.

Once my headphones are turned on everyone around me is tuned out.
I have seen people at my gym who have been there for ten years or more. 95% of them look the same as they did when thier membership started.

Kinda like religion...if a person does not beleive, nothing you say or do will make them see the light.
AND...on the girls thing...hmmmmm.....take the spandex for what it's worth...'nuff said ;D

It always makes me laugh when someone says they don't want to get too big! Like its that easy! There's one guy at the gym who is always asking my advice about his training and then never does anything that I tell him! Drives me nuts! Oh and he never squats, deadlifts or even goes heavy on anything but he'll spend an entire hour doing some isolation movement with super light weights and wonder why he can't get results!

Could care less what anyone esle is doing, wearing, saying,etc.,etc.,,, the people at my gym know it's all business with me, so they are very respectful about saving questions till I'm done. Then I'll answer what I have time for. When I train I am oblivious to everything but the exercise at hand.

Feel the same Joel! :-) Carl, I also couldnt believe that some people who have been in the gym for the last 10 years and still look the same would not try to do something different… but I realized that for some of them, shape, strength, etc wasnt important… but the social part of training was!!! Strange I know… but I guess that it's better than just going to a bar or something like this (I mean, if they dont disturb us in our workouts :-) )

I could say a lot here, but all I`ll say is that I miss the kind of gyms that I started off training in.........everyone trained hard and worked towards progressing. Anyone would offer to spot you and beleive it or not, everyone knew how to spot people. No TV s or treadmills,no frills or exercise balls, no psuedo personal trainers who barely ever trained, just ball busting training with intenity at its best, and everyone working towards the same common goal..........PROGRESS!! The gyms back then were populated by bodybuilders, olympic weightlifters, powerlifters, competitive armwrestlers and serious athletes looking to improve performance in their chosen sport. Central City Gym,The Springfield YMCA,and Big Daddys Gym........RIP !!

We had to train in garages, basements etc. where ever we could put weights! I know the type of place you referring to though and it is the best, their all but gone now!

I have these 5 different people at my gym who have been doing the same thing to me for years now. Don`t waste my time with questions and then never attempt to even try out my advice.

I also get a lot of people asking me what supplements are best to take................I ask about their diet and it`s pitiful.
Joel,I think we all started off in our baeements.........at least I did and had a pretty good setup.

Also over relying on supplements minus the diet and expecting gains.
