Wait, you were in a bus lane only, without being in a bus?
So you were in the wrong, correct?
Maybe you are a disabled vet, but did you have a placard saying so, that the bus driver could readily identify?
You want to know what an idiot is? I'll tell you this, and it happened to me this morning.
It was about 5am, and I'd just delivered a store in my 18 wheeler, and was going to another store, driving in the slow lane (far right). There was a hill ahead, and I needed to gain speed in order to A) shift gears and B) not stall and prevent me from making the shift.
As I gain speed, there is a turn about 10 yards (30 feet) and I'm doing the speed limit 35mph. Any math whizzes want to tell me how fast that 30 feet is disappearing?
I'm up to speed and ready to make the shift. Just then, a car whips past me on the left, and suddenly turns RIGHT IN FRONT OF MEto attempt the turn. THEN, the driver slams on the brakes as he/she is making the turn!!!
Pop Quiz: How fast can a 30 TON (60,000lbs) stop? Not that fast.
I SLAM on the brakes, by far the hardest I've EVER had to hit the brakes in a truck. I'm gripping the wheel with one hand, and no longer up-shifting, but now down-shifting....while the motor is still gaining RPM due to the aforementioned hill and necessity of shifting.
Out of the corner of my eye, I notice a little object called MY 28' TRAILER swinging out from behind me....jack knifing!!!
I have visions of the car already being slammed into and turned into a beer can. Me waking my boss up to tell him that I just totaled some IDIOTS car.
How in the world I managed to avoid that vehicle, down-shift and then bring that trailer back around in a straight line, without so much as a peep of the tires or slowing down; is fu*kin' beyond me. :-\
The guy makes the turn, I grab my air horn and honk as futile as it was by that point. And continue to drive as I'm sure that person continued to "drive."
THAT, my friends, is a true idiot.
