About a year ago, I had a free eval from a chiropractor. However, follow-up wasn't covered by my insurance...but now it is. So, I have seen this chiropractor twice now. My neck and back have not felt this good in years! After he "cracked" my neck and back the first time, (if I smoked) I would have had a cigarette and sent him flowers! Plus, he has worked with bodybuilders/powerlifters before, and is helping with my stretching too. Anyone else have experience with chiropractors? Good/bad? The Beef Meister

I have been in the medical field for over 13yrs and the last 8 have been with a physical medicine and rehab physician. I cannot tell you over the last eight years how many pts have ended up with back and neck surgery after seeing a chiropractor. I am not saying the Chiropractor caused them to have surgery, but the treatment received helped make their inital complaint worse. Now I am not saying ALL chiropractors are "bad" doctors. I just know what we have seen, pt's come to us after a surgery has failed, (Back, neck, knee hip surgery did not help 100% alleviate their problem so they come to our doctor, who is an MD doc, for rehab). You can get a "Bad" chiropractor and a "Bad" MD or DO doctor. I, for myself, from my pt's experiences would not go to a chiropractor, at least not in my area.

Kinda like trainers, counselors, doctors, etc.:
"They can be your best friend, or your worst enemy!"

A few years back, I used what I thought was a very good Chiropractor. Seemed to help me a lot. It got where I could turn my head driving my car and throw my neck out of wack. I feel you can get adjustments too often and cause problems. Still use one some, but only when absolutely necessary.

If he/she says, "Let's get you fixed and all better, then I never want to see you again unless you have another problem," Do it.
If he/she say, "I want to see you every other week for the rest of your life and work on this," RUN.
Like Karrie says, there are good ones and bad ones, just like any profession. Use your best judgement.

Good point Bob-I have never been to a chiropractor because I don't like the idea of anyone manipulating my neck or skull...I have a physio I go to when I do have injuries and once I'm healed I can go away happy..I've never had to revisit on an ongoing basis for any injury and thats what I like the most about a PT or physio

From mine and others experience, agree with Bob and Eric. There are many good ones out there, and it is a blessing to find one.
Good luck, Frank.

Used to go to one weekly for a couple of years.....loved it!!! Haven`t seen one since moving up her....5 years now but I`m gonna` look one up soon for my neck and back. My old chiro told me that I had the tightest stressed out traps she ever saw,and one time her partner hurt his shoulder trying to pop my lower back!!

I've had mostly good experiences with chiropractors over the years. I agree, you want to avoid the ones that want you coming back forever. I believe anyone who lifts seriously like most of us would be doing themselves a big favor getting regular adjustments from time to time. I tend to go on an as needed basis myself but there have been plenty of times when my chiropractor really helped tremendously.
Face it, regular MD's don't know what to do if you have a pinched nerve or if your spine is out of line.
My right hip was killing me for several years, I started going to a different chiropractor and I swear he fixed it! It does pay to look around for the right doctor. I like the old school guys but they're getting harder to find.
Man I think I need an adjustment! ;D
