Had It Not Been For Arnold...do you think bodybuilding would be still mainstream and appealing to the masses??
Do you think anyone else had the charisma, personality and other factors combined to make bodybuilding alluring to the public?
Fast forward so many years later even today when you ask most people who are in fitness & bodybuilding to name a bodybuilder who they adored and were influenced by the most, who originally got them to lift weights in the first place and who they think by far is the best bodybuilder and they still chant the name
" Arnold Schwarzenneger"
Let's hear your viewpoint guys........

Probably no one had a bigger influence on the sport than Arnold. He had a physique, charisma and personality that had not been seen before.
He showed that bodybuilders can be multi dimensional and his successful crossovers to show business and politics are inspirational.
He can still sell magazines today. And the Arnold Classic will always be part of his legacy.
Besides, we would never have known about girly men!! ;D

Sareen, you are so right about the fact that today, people still say "Arnold" when you ask them to name a bodybuilder… and it shows how big of an impact (should I mention positive impact) he had/has on the sport!
I think that Arnold has not been the only Charismatic bodybuilder, so having a successor who would have promoted the sport for the general public would not have been impossible… but it didnt happen and it wont happen in a near futur. Why? Not because of the Charisma or personnality of todays bodybuilders… but because of their PHYSIQUE. Back in the days, even the general publi thought that Arnold and the clic had some good looking physiques… but now, forget it! Not even some bodybuilding addicted fans think that todays pro standards are still… let say… acceptable.
That's it :-)

Good point, Mo. Too many male athletes competing today are blocky or look pregnant. Size over aesthetics.
But it is not hopeless, with guys like Dennis Wolf and Toney Freeman who look more like the old time competitors. Hoping that Wolf can turn things around down the road.
