Depends on how serious you are about your BB goals versus regular life balance.
Sure, red wine has been shown to have some minor health benefits... but ingesting alcohol in any form is also proven to hinder fat loss, hinder muscle growth, dehydrate and is comprised of empty calories.
I love a good barbera myself but I keep it pretty rare in my diet... these days not even once a month.

cool thanks for the advice
its just that when ever i watch the pro's DVDs they are on about that in the off season that they have a couple of beers e.g Shaun ray in his DVD mentioned that when he is not competing he likes going and watching it and then having a couple of cold ones with the other lads!
guess alcohol is a no no then as i am very serious about my training!

When I was competing in Power Lifting and Bodybuilding.I always had a Glass of red wine before bed.One glass of wine helps relax you and authorities say it is good for the Heart. When I was competing in Bodybuilding I did the same!!!As long as ones Diet is clean how can one glass of red wine sabotage your bodybuilding aspirations?

Actually, I used to prefer a good white reisling from time to time, but not now. I agree with FIT that it is empty calories. AND... I agree with Vince that it will help you sleep, and not bad for the heart. BUT....since you are young and just starting out, I would keep away from it and stick to clean eating and hard workouts. On an aside, some BB like to have a small glass of red wine right before hitting the stage for vascularity. It never worked for me. Also please note that having alcohol at some contests can get you disqualified. My 2 cents

Funny about vascularity... once in a blue moon my wife and I go to our favorite neghborhood wine bar... start with a good red and some bread/oil. On arm days, 15 minutes into the wine- and veins poppin all over.

I don't see a problem with it. There are many health benefits from it, just don't overdo it. I love a good red wine. As I'm getting closer to a show I'll cut it out, but the rest of the time I don't worry too much about it.

Clean eating will raise your HDL levels also. Last time mine was checked it was 94. Have not had any red wine or any other alcohol in almost 11 years. All it ever did for me was to get me in lots of trouble. LOL
