I was wondering what is up with the sugar content in Yams and Sweet potato? Does it hurt any gains? I know most of you eat alot of it.
Also which is higher in sugar content ? yams or sweet?
How do YOU guys cook them? I put them in the toaster oven and bake.

Max, They are just complex carbs ,same as brown rice,and oatmeal.
The GI is probably different but they are all along the same lines.
The only way they would be detrimental to you is if you ate too many of them while dieting! (carbs that is)

thought sugar in them were similar to something like Fruit...cause its also natural sugar..same goes for onion.

You know i know that Tim.... ;D But i got a question about fruits for ya....which type of fruit has the least frutose and more of the glucose ...??

Tim, hope you don't mind me butting into this thread! Maximum6: [it's a while since i've thought about this stuff so I may be way off the mark. I'm sure Tim can correct me if I'm making no sense] I thought I'd try and answer your question: Most fruit has low levels of fructose, typically less than 10% of the weight of the fruit is fructose. Also bear in mind that the amount of fructose in fruit is also dependent on the weight of the fruit. This means that a fruit weighing 6oz that has 10% fructose, has less fructose than a fruit weighing 4oz with 25% fructose (by weight). So long as you are not eating enormous quantities of fresh fruit, fructose consumption isn't a big issue. Do keep in mind that dried fruits have higher concentrations of fructose. In terms of which fruits have high glucose and low fructose, the best you are likely to find is a 50:50 ratio (glucose to fructose) White Grapes Most berries (strawberries, etc.) Oranges (but keep in mind that from a caloric standpoint, grapes are kinda useless ) The fruits with the worst ratio would be things like apples and peaches.
