Just think these two Mr. Olympia's competed at only 180-185. When you here about what some of today's pros compete at it blows your mind.

Good point Gary, and in my opinion they looked better than a lot of ,if not most of the current crop of Mr. O`s with the GH gut and lack of proportion, lines, and symmetry.

I guess you don't realize how nice Zane's build was until you look at today's pros. Zane looked like he could play tennis, bike ride, swim, you get the point.

Some of these guys today get out of breath walking on stage .Let alone play tennis, bike ride, swim . You know something . I don;t know about the way you guys think about this .But I remember being in study hall and gym class reading muscle mags way back in the mid and early 60's. Mostly everyone that looked at them would say wow look at that !I would love to look like those guys and the girls would look and say good things . My friend I work with brought in a current magazine .No one that t looked at the men and women thought they looked good .And would say wow those guys are on some great drugs and would would want to look like that ! We also would hang pictures of men like Reeves ,Scott ,Poole etc...I stopped in at a local gym that lot of big guys workout at and there were no pictures .I asked the owner why .He looked rolled his eyes and said please their drug freaks !To bad !This happen to any of you ? In my gym I have Grimek , Reeves and Reg Park on the wall thats it .

I like the more pleasing proportionate physique myself. Size is great but when it get`s too far out of hand it ruins the natural lines of the body. There are only a few guy`s around today on the pro scene with a small ,tight ,waistline!

tim you said you're not a big fan of most of the current pros' physiques, so just out of curiosity, what is your personal opinion about the current champ's (ronnie) physique? and also do you think that he used to look better than he does now?

I think Ronie Coleman is great and I admire his work ethic, but to me a Mr. Olympia should not have a GH gut. I think he was definately better at a lighter bodyweight ,but for these guy`s to play today`s game and be successful, they are forced to play the size game. It`s too bad because most top guy`s competing now do not have their own individual look to their physiques. Years ago they did a silhouette of the top guys, and you could tell who they were even though the pics were blacked out, by their body shape. Nowadays everyone look`s like they were pressed out of the same mold. Maybe it`s because I`m getting older that I feel this way, but I doubt it.

Outside of Ronnie and Jay, it is the proportioned and symmetrical look now winning the pro shows. And even Jay was about 10 pounds lighter in his last Arnold.
Ronnie will be Mr Olympia for as long as he competes. Will be curious to see who his successor will be when the time comes.

I think it is becoming clear that competitive bodybuilding and what makes a top body means different things to differrent people.
On one hand we have those who prefer a huge and ripped physique with less emphasis put on great lines, symmetry and proportions. And on the other, there are those who prefer a proportional physique with beautiful muscle shape combined with decent mass and conditioning.
Personnally, I'm with the latter group. I feel there is a point (weight and size-wise) beyond which a bodybuilder's physique starts to lose its balance and proportions and becomes ungainly.
To take an example, that has been used in this thread, Ronnie Coleman had a superb physique mid to late 1990s, but when decided to push on with piling on more mass he started to lose what made his physique look great. Same thing happened with Dorian. That's the way I see it anyway. Others of course prefer Ronnie's physique just the way it is now.
