I think you're stretching it now, Merlin, nobdoy here has ever suggested that Max go on a contest diet... not even close.
Simply eating clean is not going to get you into competition condition.
And eating junk food simply to make the scale move won't pack on muscle either.

On the contrary Merllin, when Max first joined the board and told me a little about himself,I advised him to eat like there was no tomorrow.
he insisted that his goal was to get ripped abs (against my better judgement) so I tried to teach him about clean eating.
after he had acheived his goal,he said he was going for more size and I told him it was about time!!
He still likes to eat clean though ,for health reasons ,and he has put on some weight.

I am going to play devil's advocate on this one. Now I wouldn't do this at this stage in my bodybuilding "career" however my first few years training, I couldn't eat enough calories. I was the ultimate ectomorph, very hard to put on muscle. I did incorporate McD's in my diet in order to get in some calorie dense foods. I will tell you that it served it's purpose at the time. I put on muscle (along with some fat) and got strong as hell.
I couldn't or wouldn't do this today but when I weighed 110 lbs. it helped get me out of a rut and start gaining. So it does depend on the individual.

i don't see too big of a problem with it
when i decided to move from 198 to 220, i ate at McDs about once or twice a week. $1 for 400 with 25 grams of protein isn't half bad.
at less than 110 pounds, i think you could eat at McDs everyday and not gain much fat.

i was 110 lb a few weeks ago...now i'm 115 Yea..i'm sure i wont' gain much fat eating mickey d's..but i don't think mickey d is that great for my health...especially after SUPER SIZE ME movie ...just to prove a point. Although..i do have a burger out once in awhile when i go out with my girl.... I go to IN-N-OUT burger..but not everyday... But overall....i take dieting as a way of life...as i reminded Tim once....

two reasons to eat "junk food"
1) get enough calories 2) for fun
1) if you eat clean all the time, there is very likely going to be a time that you miss a meal, in which case you will generally be all of a sudden greatly UNDEReating, ESPECIALLY if you are a pristine bulker...in this situation, certain junk foods are acceptable, I'd say
2) maybe once a week, feel free to live like a normal person...go out with your friends, or a girlfriend/boyfriend/whateverfriend and just enjoy yourself...if you aren't competing, then there is no need for your diet to ruin your life...if you are honestly pretty strict on your diet all week, your body might even respond favorably to the spike day

But overall....i take dieting as a way of life...as i reminded Tim once.... first, supersize me is the most bias movie i have ever seen next to that Michael Moore 9/11 garabage. i know of at least three other sites that show other individuals who have eaten only McD for 30 to 40 days and have either loss fat or gain LBM. second, i see no real big problem with the overall health consequences of eating fast food every once in a while. particulary, if you stick to burgers and stray away from fries. my version of super healthy McDs is taking two double cheesers and throwing out a bun from each and combining them for a quad burger. if you are active and generally consume whole grains, lean meats and a good deal of "healthy" fats, then you'll be fine.

here where i live there's this place where you can order hamburgers that go up to 1200 grams . now thats a cheat meal . ;D ;D i see nothing wrong with cheat meals but then again my first show is about 2 years away , as long as the cheat meal is not off the chrats as far as suger levels and and un-healthy non- productive fats , i see no harm in it . to me a cheat meal is a meal where i eat meats that are not as lean as chicken , like beef for exapmle haveing 320 grams of beef in a meal is a whole lot of protein !!!
