my girlfriend has the mealplan at ASU which is a card that has money on it that can ONLY be used for food...the bad thing about it is that after the semester is over, the money does NOT carry over to the next semester, so she has about 380 bucks and 3 1/2 weeks left...long story short, she wants to buy me food like every day now...there is a place in the student union that is similar to boston market, in that you can buy just plain meat, but the only carbs they have are stuffing or mashed potatoes (or mac n cheese)...
im gonna have her cover two of my meals while im at school, so i'll have her get me 10-12 oz of turkey to split between two meals, but should i get the mashed potatoes (no gravy) too? i'm dieting DOWN now, so how bad would this be? the scoop is about 1 cup...
normally, i'll be eating wild rice blend and oatmeal for carbs, but these two meals would be mashed potatoes...i work out early morning (6:00am), and these would come at 3:00pm and 5:00pm...i go to bed at 9pm
any thoughts?

I eat them on contest diet... when you chew up a cooked potato, it = mashed potato when it hits your stomach anyway.
However, you might investigate the process by which those "mashed potatoes" come to reach your plate (i.e. research). My point being that there are many, many processed techniques for potatoes: Denny's, for example, comes in a magic box that you add water to and VIOLA, a few hours later, you have mashed (or fries, incicentally).
If they're cooked potatoes that have been mashed, you have no worries. If they're some sort of processed/freeze-dried dealy, it's likely to have undesireable "additions", not to mention the issues surrounding processed foods.
From Fitday.com: 1 cup boiled (skinless) potatoes = - 134 cals - 1.4 cals from fat - 376 mg sodium - 512 mg potassium - 31.2 g carbs - 2.7 g protein.
