Hi guys, my 2nd time posting. I just had a quick question about whey protein. I myself, for not taking anything am pretty well built. I wanted to start taking whey protein so my mom took me to the mall, and we go into the vitamin store and i wanted to get some on's 100% whey protein. They didnt have it there, so my mom started asking questions. The guy said that i should be 17 or 18. I look 17 or 18ish the dude mighta been trying to help me out , i dono. Anyway im 15 , 16 in March and ive seen another man who is 15 and hes pretty ripped and he takes that stuff. Any advice guys ?

well...i'm 15 and i take whey. There isn't really a age limit to Whey protein i think. Its just like any protien ther is (beef, milk, eggs)
Whey is safe...just don't become a drug addict. ;D

Whey protein is a high quality protein, with Optimum being high on the list for quality. It's label claims match the %protein content (being a chemist I have the resources to "play around" at times ;D). However, like ski has always maintained, food is anabolic. Protein supplements should be just that, a supplement. Don't rely on it exclusively. Eat high quality protein and you won't go wrong. Foods first and foremost, supplements second.

If you have consumed milk in your life you have already had whey protein. Milk is a combination of whey and casein protein. The whey that is in health food stores is basically just concentrated and isolated from milk. Not only is it ok for you to have, it is quite healthy for you to have.

yes there is a certain age...i believe you have to be at least 3 yrs old or at least have teeth to eat chicken.
There fore....anywhere between 3-80yrs old i suppose ;D
i'm thinking by the time you're 80 you'll start to lose all your teeth. :Big Laugh:

Hey Buffstuffphil, you got a lot of great info to your question here, and even some fun stuff along the way although sometimes at Tims expense ;D , but that is what he gets for being so popular. I was lucky when I got started with BB again, Tim and the board helped me to not make the same mistakes I had made for years, in fact it was like being in your shoes, It was like I just getting started, so I wanted to get back to your question, and put my 2 cents worth in and to help with the “Mom” part of the question also.
You have been given the info, that:
Your not too young. You should not expect it to take the place of a good diet of clean foods. You should use it as a supplement to your dedicated work outs, properly done. You have many options to types of protein to use and when to use it.
All of the above info can be found in the past postings on the board. So start with those, and when you think you understand how to live your life to reach your goals, then and only then will the protein supps be worth your time and money.
When you reach that point, your approach to mom can be helped by you finding a local gym where you can talk with a personal trainer or even get the name of a SPORTS doctor. When you convince then you have done your planning, they is a better chance they will support you and mom can trust them more then the store clerk.
Now for everybody else, we all know that 1 answer does not fit everyone, and results from protein supps vary, but this is how I read the question/problem he had, and how I think this board can best guide him to be the future pros for others to ask who will follow in his shoes.

Hey Tim, thanks for the nice words. I am ALWAYS reading the board. ( I do 3 things on the internet most every day, read my e-mail, read your board, and read the job postings in my area.....yes I want a new job bad.)
I haven't contributed much to the training side (and I think you have plenty of fun post being put up ;D ) because I have had a set back with my delt in my right arm for months and have been on a bad cycle of laying off to heal a couple weeks, not being able to stand it, so starting back, and sure enough it will start hurting again. So now after laying off during the holidays, ( by the way, not such a great time to lay off if you are going to eat bad like I did ;D) I am back to trying to lose the weight so I can BB agian. I am actually trying to do maintenance lifting with dumbells/machines using just my left arm for exercise that stress the delts. I know it is crazy, but I just can't stand not doing something to keep up other parts of my body while that delt heals.
My brother-in-law the"doctor" says there is not much you can do except don't use it and take ibuprophen to reduce the swelling/tenderness. So I am trying to meet him half way with this weird idea of training ;D
Good luck with the upcoming show.

Sorry to hear about the shoulder injury.....did you see bodyfx`s post on uni-lateral training in the Training Section?
It might give you more insight!!
I don`t mind the members busting me at all,we`re all friends, and a little good natured ribbing is cool............notice I said"a little" !! ;D
