I am dieting, and I follow a high protein, medium fat, low carb approach. I usually eat 4% fat ground beef that I get for $3.99 a pound here, I really like it and it only has 4.5g of fat per 4oz serving, with only 1.5g sat. fat. But I like eating steak a lot as well. The only steak that I know is very lean is eye of round, but I hate it, it's too tough. I eat filet mignon that I get for $12.99 a pound and trim off the excess fat (although there is not much). However, as one might guess, this gets pretty costly. Any other suggestions? I have tried Flank as well, don't care for that much, either.

Filet all the way!! My favorite kind of steak! But try buffalo -- I like the buffalo burgers (watch how you cook 'em, though). 24gm protein, 0 carbs and 5gm of fat. A high quality source of protein.

Ever eat buffalo burgers? Good stuff. Seasoned right its almost like hamburgers, but as low in fat as chicken.
As far as steak goes, London Broil is a good choice.

Top round london broil, I believe it's the leanest and it is also the cheapest.

Wish I could afford steak of any kind! Lately it's nothing but chicken boobies and tuna from a can.

If I were a rich man it would be Porterhouses everyday.
I look through the look supermarket circulars to see what type of special they are running that week and try to stock up.
Finally getting down to the end of the london broil I brougt about a month ago and this week they are running a special on round steak for around 2 bucks a pound so I'll probably buy 20 lbs. and pack it up and put it in the freezer.
The butchers at that supermarket are pretty accomadating and will cut the meat to the specifications that I ask them to, which is 2 lb. slabs.
Which I cook and then eat 1/2 lb. servings per meal

I recommend caution when buying buffalo "burgers"... the butchers who make it were taught the same way the ones who make beef were... and that is to add fat!
Just cause the name "buffalo" appears on it, that absolutely doesn't mean it's lean or leaner. It CAN be but then so CAN beef burgers. The same principles apply... find out how much. Only certain cuts are leaner and most burger is a conglomeration... and like I said, most were taught that adding fat is required for flavor.
Just sayin', use caution.
BTW, I like a nice New York Strip steak or Prime Rib offseason.

The leanest cuts of steak are eye of the round,Tenderloin, top round, and flank steak. Most other cuts have marbeling, which is fat within the meat that makes it tender. Stay away from Porterhouse,Ribeye,Shoulder,Chuck steak,T-bone, and Strip steak.Sirloin isnt that bad if you trim all visible fat.
