Hey guys:
A few days ago I started back on glutamine, but at a higher dose than I previously had taken. I'm taking 1000mg 3x/day. Since then I've been getting the "runs"..gross I know but inconvenient nonetheless - ha.
Is this a commonn side-effect of high dosages of glutamine?

No. More likely it's the casing of the pill that's giving you problems

Big Mike, no disrespect intended here, but 3,000 mgs (3 grams) of glutamine/day is not a high dose. You shouldn't be taking in any less than 5 grams PER SERVING. I'd say if you're using glutamine your better off at 20+ grams per day depending on what type you are taking and when you are taking it.

Thanks for the advice guys. Layne, maybe I'll try glutamine powder instead of the pill, meanwhile I'll up my dose Hossjob- and I didn't take any offense!

Def up that dose! You should see some great results. Get the powder form too, much more economical. Try taking it 4-5 times/day on an empty stomach at 5 gram doses. You can even increase your intake more if you want.

What kind of results will I see? It's my understanding that it aids in recovery- are there any other benefits? I thought I read once it actually may help raise test levels.

Glutamine does TONS of things, when taken correctly. The biggest difference I think is the muscle volumizing effect. I always seem to stay more "FULL" when I'm on glutamine (muscles not gut, lol). It also aids in recovery and fuels your immune system. I've found that when I'm taking lots of glutamine for extended periods, I dont' get as many upper resp infections and not nearly as many sinus infections which I'm apt to because of allergies, asthma and living in Ohio! bodyfx advocates (and I do to thanks to bodyfx ) taking in 5 grams glutamine w/ 5 grams bcaa's and 2-3 grams creatine 4-6 times per day between meals. This is an amazing way to aid in recovery, stay full/pumped, and increase the anabolic environment in your muscles.
