I personally get better results from whole food, keeping shakes to a minimum. Maybe pre and post workout..

I'm a whole food guy also---shakes only as a last resort, and NEVER pre-contest. You CAN get enough protein without the shakes if you plan ahead-- I take in about 400 gms. of protein per day, pre-contest. That's 50-70 gms per meal ( YES- I think you CAN digest that much at a time with the aid of some papaya enzymes) spread over 7-8 meals per day. The last week I cut back to 6 meals per day and load as I mentioned in the thread about "last week preparation. "

I like to get my protein by solid food also but with my schedule I need to have one b4 training and one immediately after training. So I have to go with 2. 10 days prior to a show I cut them out completely.

I'm a WHOLE food guy all the way. If I need a meal and for soem reason cannot get a whole food meal, I will have a shake and not miss the meal. I resort to shakes at these times only: 1. Pre & Post Workout 2. No possible way I can eat a whole food meal 3. I drop my food on the floor in the teachers lounge and have NOTHING to eat! hahaha (dno't laugh it happened) Now, I've got to be honest here. Today (Tuesday after the Saturday of a competition), I had a protein shake just 30 minutes ago because I had a little CHEAT Snickers bar between meals and I was NOT hungry. However, i realize the importance of post competition nutrition so I wanted to get in a little protein before I went for a nature walk w/ my wife

Depends. Some times I have 2-3 shakes a day, some days zero, and others just one as I wake up. Haven't done a PW shake in some time now, and haven't noticed any losses (I doubt Grimek/Reeves ever had any whey/glutamine/creatine loaded shakes to drink!). Generally I wake up with one, and drink it on the way to work. Sometimes, like tonight, I also have one prior to bed- the protein I custom mixed is a very slow digesting (and foul tasting!) drink. Plenty of caseinates, BCAA's, and very little whey. And it works- as well as for making you gag.

I might have one protein shake a week. I find solid food more filling.

I would like to change my vote. I have been having 2 Myoplex Deluxe per day + my PWO shake Lately. Just too darn busy running around with clients all the time. I guess I am a bipolar dieter...

I have 1 a day pre contest and 2 a day off season. For me it's convenient. I do prefer whole foods they fill me up.
