Out of curiosity and continual experimentation with my training and diet, i have decided to try some liver tabs. An old school thing, and cheap, so worth a whirl.
I've read that to start off with i should go for 3 tabs 4 times a day and work my way up to as many as 50 depending on how it goes. Do u reckon that this is a safe dose for somebody of my weight?(140-142lbs). Also to only take for three weeks before taking a wek or two rest and go again if i fancy it.

Ive used them before. Actually just threw out a large bag of them that I found. I didnt get much of anything from them. Dunno. Give it a whirl..

Starting taking these tabs today. 3 tabs 4 times a day with meals and advised to take them before roughly 4-5pm as they can increase energy and might cause trouble getting to sleep. I'll slowly increase this over the next couple of days, 50 is the max but at the moment im thinking around 30 tops. I'll keep you posted on any progress, possible effects are increased energy and water retention.

I'll try and follow Tims example and see if i can steal some info from another site about the liver tabs. 4th day into taking them, now on 6 tabs 4 times a day and as i write this i'm starting to feel really hyped and wired ;D Hitting the iron for a rep range shoulders and tri's sesh soon

There is no mystery that old timer bodybuilders used to take beef liver tablets.
Why did they do this? They were a good source of protein. Beef liver It is a very rich source of B vitamins, especially riboflavin, niacin, B-12, and the lipotropics choline and inositol it contains phosphorous, copper, zinc, chromium.
Also, liver has long been known to have a good source of iron in it. In fact when I was growing up doctors used to tell anemic people to eat liver to help with iron poor blood, liver is a natural source of iron, also liver contains folic acid, which is good for lowering homocysteine which is a major factor in congestive heart failure.
Your muscles contain myoglobin, an oxygen carrying protein that works inside the cells. Like hemoglobin, myoglobin also requires iron to bind oxygen. Without the iron, the whole oxygen transport system simply won't work. It is well established that iron deficiency decreases work output and athletic performance.
In addition to these known nutrients, there are substances present in liver shown to have a beneficial effect on health, fitness, and endurance such as cytochrome P-450 and others yet to be identified.
According to Vince Gironda, the "Iron Guru", desiccated liver contains nucleic acids for proper amino acid utilization, a growth factor and an anti-estrogen factor, which keeps testosterone levels high, and it is also a great anti-toxin.
Desiccated liver helps to increase red blood cell count and stimulate appetite. Anabolic steroids also stimulate appetite and increase red blood cell count.
Highest protein source is in organ meats.
Some feel that liver has a anabolic effect if taken in large amounts. I don’t think there is any study supporting this but I can see how this could be possible. The liver contains all kindof growth hormone factors, makes cholesterol is a vital component of most, if not all cells in the body, and is critical for immune function. Cholesterol is the *mother steroid* in the body, from which many of our hormones are synthesized, estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, etc), converts T4 to T3, etc.
Several years ago, in order to demonstrate the capabilities of liver in the arena of boosting strength and endurance, Dr. B. H. Ershoff conducted a rather interesting experiment. The following is what occurred:
Dr. Ershoff took three groups of rats, and fed them controlled diets for a twelve week period of time. Group one ate a basic diet fortified with vitamins and minerals. Group two ate as much as they wanted of the same diet plus extra B-vitamins and brewer's yeast. The B-vitamins and yeast were added to the group two diet because of livers high B-vitamin content and the close proximity of brewers yeast to liver's nutrient content. Group three at the same basic diet but were supplemented with desiccated beef liver.
At the end of the twelve weeks of controlled nutrition, the rats were systematically placed in a drum of water. They couldn't climb out, so it was either swim or drown. The group one rats swam an average of 13.2 minutes before they drowned. Group two, an average of 13.4 minutes. Group three however were still swimming at the end of two hours! The experiment was concluded at that time.
I feel that for the price and nutritional benefit, they are a good selection for supplementation.
Are they anabolic? Try 100 a day and let me know

That sounds about right from the stuff i've read about Vince. He favoured a low carb, high protein and high fat diet if i'm remembering correctly?
As for that info i stole, i doubt if i'll get up to 100 tabs a day! That sounds crazy! I think 50-60 will be a definate max, increasing by 1 tab at each meal per day. Still only 4 times a day for 3 weeks.

I was just about to post here that i was going to chuck these tabs in the bin. But i just re-read the info i "borrowed" in this thread and i think i'll change my ideas. I have noticed an increase in energy during the day but i now train as soon as i roll out of bed, so that energy for training is too late. In the info above tho it says about increasing appetite, and i reckon thats definately working! My gains have stalled, so this week the cals have gone up from 3000 to 3300. I'm doing less at work as the contract has just changed hands, so theres more recovery and should be less cals burnt off. But my appetite has definately kicked up a notch this week. I usually eat every 3 hours but have started to feel hungry again after 2. I've also found the need to drink more water than normal. Up to 12 tabs 4 times a day now. Chewing 4 at a time and washing them down with water, a bit like eating dog biscuits.(not that i've done that) So tomorrow i'll get back with the program and get those scooby snacks down my neck ;D

I forgot to add that sex drive has increased and mood has been elevated to a very happy high. Not sure if its these tabs but our house is a happy home

Yeah Mo, pics are needed i know! Tried to take some pics last nite but the lighting is really rubbish in our house. And now the days are grey and miserable outside theres not enough quality daylight to take some pics My legs are growing quite well recently so i was trying to take some full body pics, i'll experiment a little around the house tonight while my girl is at college. She was loving it last night when i was rushing around the house with a full length mirror and digi cam. Trying to find some quality light ;D Appetite is raging again today, no weight fluctuations for a while now and holding a steady 142lbs. I'll try my hardest to get some fresh pics up here soon!
