Anyone use protein during your workouts? I am experimenting with 2 scoops Nectar (50 grams) + 1 scoop dextrose (30 grams). So far, GREAT!!!! I am ALWAYS hungry so this is working out very well so far (2 days).

At a certain point when i'm off season -when my cals intake is very high and almost hard for me to reach - i do take a 30g of protein and 50g of carbs shake during my workout

Lots of people swear by this practice but I`m old school and think that the only thing you should ingest during training is water. Simply because you would want the blood supply in the muscles that you`re training,not in the stomach trying to help digest food. IMO,you should be fueled enough before training,and this should help you get through a workout until your post-workout meal/shake. With all that being said,I refer to another bodybuilding philosophy of mine.........if it works,do it!!! Never be afraid to experiment,it`s how we find out how to make progress. Keep us updated Randy.

LOL ;D You weren't wrong, just mistaken! ;D As far as a during training shake/meal, I disagree with it. All it would do, in my mind, is take blood out of the working muscles, and bring it to the stomach which is exactly what we do not want. Then you have a bloated stomach, and could have an upset stomach too. Making your training unproductive. Even a small shake I think would be counter-productive much like waking up by an alarm to eat in the middle of the night. Just not worth it in my opinion.

I know I've mentioned it before...but I don't consume ANYTHING except coffee and 2 little slices of canteloupe, (sometimes), prior to my AM session. Nothing during the workout except water, and as I double split most of the year, same goes for my PM workout. Nothing special before, during, or after. I just eat....I've ALWAYS been a whole food guy. I know this doesn't fit with the latest trends on supplementation, but it's the way I've aways done it, and like Tim said...if it works for you then it's right.

I have been using SciVation Xtend during wos ... I have found it to be AWESOME!! The watermelon flavor rocks!!!!!!!!!

I've been using a whey isolate creatine dextrose shake right before and right after training for the last three yrs. Got the idea from the guys at AST research. They claim its a good idea to get you blood sugar up and get the aminos in the whey isolate in your blood stream asap.
Also the people who put out the no nonsense newsletter and bodymuscle claim its a good idea to take branch chain aminos during your workout. It would be a bit expensive though. I think its more cost effective to use the whey. But I'm kinda cheap!

Whey isolate and dextrose is very light on the stomach and I don't think that a lot of blood is needed for digestion, it's not like breaking down a food meal.
In theory I think it's a good idea, I have never tried it although I do bracket my workouts with a similar shake.

The gym I go to only allows water on the workout floor so I don't during workout. I generally do a shake right after my workout.
I am curious about doing a pre-workout shake. I use GNC Mega Isolate post, can I use the same for pre? Or is there something else I should look at? I did one of the pre-mixed shakes the other day before my workout (30 min.'ish) and noticed I had more energy and an overall better workout.
Would nectar/dextrose be good for this also?

I also suggest consuming a shake composed of 30-40g of whey protein along with dextrose or maltodextrin during their workout. The carbohydrates in the shake should account for about 20% of one's total daily carbohydrate intake.
This Shake Will Have Several Benefits:
Spare muscle glycogen and increase performance.
Spare muscle tissue.
Maintain a constant release of insulin, therefore inhibiting cortisol release.
The continuous ingestion of carbohydrates will ensure that adequate substrate is available for the glycolytic pathway.

Right now I am using Xtend x 3 scoops + Substance WPI, Watermelon. YUM!!!!! + 1 1/4 scoop Dextrose.... MAJOR PUMPS!!!
