What i mean is....like in Oatmeal...there are carbs/proteins/fats in it.
But you count it as a carb source.
But do you count the proteins and fats in it? or do you just count 1serv. of oatmeal as 27g of carb in your overall macro intake? and just be 108 cals?
Or do you guys count ''everything" put together in that meal? Like Oatmeal and eggwhites. Even the carbs in the eggwhites would count toward the overall carb intake for the day and the protein in the oatmeal would be complete protein if combined with eggs so..you would also count the protein in the oatmeal.

I only count the carbs from starches and not the protein or fat that it contains.
With protein foods, I will count the protein and fats it contains.
With fats like nuts, I will only count the fats and not the protein or carbs within.

Same here..............those trace amounts don`t matter much unless you are eating a boatload of food........literally!!
A lot of the protein content in some of the mainly carb foods is incomplete protein anyway .

so you would count 1serv. of oatmeal to be 108 cals right? which is just 27g of carbs....and those calories would be counted only.
another question is...what about the fats that comes from protein shakes...?

If you base your diet on calories, then you would count ALL calories...protein/carb/fat. I do not base my diets on calories, but macronutrients. There is a difference there. As for the fat from protein shakes...yes, I count that.

yes...i was gonna say i made a mistake... On fitday.com it counts all the things you in put in there..so it counts up all the macronutrients (complete protein or not) together...and count all the calories. i'm gonna have to look over my diet plan and do the calculations myself.

Do the same than Eric an Tim excepted that i count the proteins of my fat sources!
Anyway, what is the more important is that when you count a certain way... keep counting the same way during all your diet cycle (For example, dont change on week 9 of a 16 weeks cutting diet)

i'm just recently adjusted to counting macronutrients only.
i found that the Nutrition Info. provided on labels are not exactly to their "total calorie". Most of them Round off their calories.
So now i just read the macronutrients printed on the labels per serving...put them into the fit day...and i have to calculate the calories myself based off the macronutrient.
