Hey Guys:
Because of my work schedule, I usually go to gym in the late evening and get home late. I usually eat a cup of brown rice, a cup of boiled red beans and a piece of boiled chicken and go to bed 60 minutes after eating. I am trying to cut up right now..clean..some people are saying that most of the food will end up as fat because there is not enough time for my body to digest all that food..any thoughs? Scott what do you say?

Just make sure that total carb consumption for the day is not excessive.

Thanks for your response Scott. I usually keep my carbs under 30grams during the day and until after my work out. And just to expand on this topic, if I remember correctly For example, we know that you can eat more after an intensive workout without storing fat because the energy and nutrients are needed for muscle repair and glycogen replacement.

If you are trying to cut up I would definitly say to stop eating the rice and substatute it with some green beans or something els.
I work out late and eat about an hour b4 bed myself, my meal is usually 7 eggs (5 whites, 2 whole) with some green peppers and onions all scrambled together. I eat 90% of my carbs when I wake up in the morning. It seems to work for me.

After your workout your metabolism should be reved up no matter what time of day or night it is (assuming that you really worked out hard), so while I'd normally never recommed carbs late at night on a cutting cycle, in your particular case it's fine. Vin.

Adolph, it's hard for me to give advice not knowing your stats and not knowing your protein, carb, fat, calorie intake PRIOR to your post workout meal. Post a days diet and your weight and I can give some better advice.
Initially, I'd say you still NEED those carbs post workout, but I'd keep them somewhat low (40-50) and have a mix of low and high gi carbs (1:1 ratio of white to brown rice). Or if you are very worried, you can have 30-40 FAST acting carbs w/ BCAA/Glut/Creatine before your last exercise to start recovery, then have protein when you get home.

Hi,
Same recommendation here: Whatever the time of the day you are at the gym, i would recommand eating carbs after the workout! The quantity would depend of your muscles mass, metabolism, and the rest of your diet, but you need to eat some even if you go to bed a couple of minutes after!
If, for exemple, my workout is done at 10h00 PM… and i go to bed at 11h00 PM, I would still take 70g of simple carbs (Gatorade) in my postworkout shake before bed!

Exactly and I agree with Mo's advice as well. It's extremely rare for PW carbs to end up as fat. You're body is replenishing/recovering from a stressful situation and your nutrition will be used for those purposes.

Adolph: Thanks for asking this question- I"m on a schedule much like yours and often find myself wondering the same thing after the workout. I feel wiped like I need carbs but was afraid to eat them even though I'm trying to pack on some lbs ;D Thanks everyone else for clarifying- protien shake and brown rice here I come. I have done this a few times and have felt like my muscles felt alot more full in the morning than usual so I do believe in eating before sleeping. Eat, train, eat, sleep, eat, eat, eat, train, eat, eat, sleep.
