does drinking seltzer count towards the daily intake of water. my company offers complimentary sodas/water and i have been drinking about 4-5 cans of Canada Dry Lemon Lime Seltzer a day.

But I would say no for someone in a contest prep mode who really needs to drink a precise amount of water! Why? Because the cafeine in it has a diuritic effect, so it's not true that 4 liters of soda will hydrate you as 4 liters of water. But that being said, for someone who just wants to get hydrated, I would say that it counts.

I dont know Seltzer very much... but I thought it was something like diet Coke... which has cafeine in it.

S'okay Mo!!! Even if it has caffeine, you can include it into your fluid intake. Diet Coke, has water in it, right? It's carbonated, yes, but it will still be okay to include as H20. The caffeine may be a diuretic, but it's not all that much. Normally us BBers take about 200mg of caffeine with our ECA stacks and what not. Diet coke has 45mg, and Crystal Light has 11.25mg. Why do I mention this? I piss like a horse on race day when I drink Crystal Light!!! But not when I have diet coke, unless it's 100's of oz's. But I piss more with Crystal Light, because it has citric acid in it and that will act as a diuretic. I'm assuming that's why you would discount Diet Coke- because the caffeine acts as a diuretic, and dehydrates you? I don't think it matters all that much.

No caffeine in Seltzer. All it is is carbonated water.

Great infos Youngblood and I totally agree with the carbonated water thing! As far as caffeine goes, maybe you're right and I shouldnt worry about it… but let just say that I prefer not to take any chances since I've always felt more hydrated and fuller (intra cellular) when having water instead of high quantity of diet Cola.

Well, you never said anything about being fuller or hydrated...this was about if seltzer counts towards hydration levels or not. Yes it does. Does Diet Coke leave me wanting more fluids? Yes. From that standpoint, only water and Crystal Light can quench my thirst. Who knows, Rubi just sent me a link about Fruit2O, so we'll see if that's a suitable replacement for H2O....
