Didn't I read something about her in Flex a couple of months ago? She really is an inspiration, strong in spirit as well as in body.

In the August 2004 issue, I wrote the obituary for Pudgy's husband Les, and Pudgy was also shown in the photos. Tim, did you receive the two other photos of Pudgy I emailed to you yesterday?

In the August 2004 issue, I wrote the obituary for Pudgy's husband Les, and Pudgy was also shown in the photos. Yeah, that's exactly the one I was thinking of..... Thanks, Joe!

Pudgy told me that when she walked away she heard comments that she looked like a man. She never heard those comments as she walked toward people... She is a special lady, who is now age 87.

Tim, I am in touch with the family, and have spoken to Laura a few times since Les passed. Laura was very pleased with how the FLEX piece treated her father. It is either very easy or very difficult to write about people with whom you are emotionally tied; in this case, being asked to write the obituary for this spelndid person came with an odd sense of satisfaction.
One of my regrets is that I never met the family in person, but spoke to them often on the phone, and Les COULD TELL A STORY! He was childlike in his joy for living, and toward the end he fought cancer every step, wanting to stay here with Pudgy as long as he could.
This reminds me, I need to call Laura soon.

Wow. What an inspiration! I've never heard of her either, but must confess that I barely have time to keep up with my own hectic life and I fall short of having a lot of down time to read mags for entertainment. Just this year, I figured out where the Sandow came from and I've been dabbling in the sport for 16 years. Like LC said, she must have had a hard time of it. Thanks for sharing this! She's an amazing woman who helped carve the way for us ladies today.

David Chapman is currently updating his book on Eugen Sandow, and anyone wanting an excellent text on Sandow should consider adding it as a reference book. David translates from the French for my site, this morning adding a romantic tale about Apollon and the veiled lady . He also writes for Ironman, and is among the irongame's top historians.

For anyone that lives in a cave, and doesn`t know who Joe Roark is,he is the official IFBB Historian, and writes a monthly column in Flex magazine called "Factoids". I am proud to call Joe a friend, and his contributions to the "Iron Game" are immense. Anything you need to know about the game....Joe can answer, or at least usually find out for you. The guy is a regular encyclopedia of facts. ;D Thanks for being here with us Joe,it means a lot to me, and you are an asset to any board that you contribute to. I know that sounds sappy, but it`s coming from the heart!
