Ladies (or any guys who know), I'm going to go out on a limb here, and ask those of you who may have had experience with this: How does one begin a search for work as a fitness model? I know that's a pretty broad category, and I wasn't able to come up with anything satisfactory with a Google search. How do you get into the industry, who do you need to contact? Is it possible to find work locally where I live? And do I need to have a professional set of photos done prior to looking? It's just an idea I had tonight, so any input would be appreciated!

Lori, It's not my main job, but i sometime do photo shots for magazines or small roles (figuration) in tv shows. (I wont send my futur kids in the best schools with the incomes of that ;D) It's all started when i sent my studio pics (that i already have took for myself, egocentric i know ) to a model agency. At the agency, they had great contacts so they presented my profile to their clients... and the clients that searched for my kind of body asked for my services. The next step for me will be to directly send my photos to some fitness magazines... will see what happen... For now, it's only local contract and i like it that way! Hope it can help! Mo

Great ideas, Mo, thanks!! Do you have any model agencies you would recommend? I hate to just pick one randomly. As far as the magazines, can you just go ahead and send them your pics, and if they like/need you they'll contact you? Or is it better to have some kind of agent? I'm looking for things that can be done locally also; I don't have the time or desire to travel outside of the Pacific Northwest (except on vacations LOL), but I could use the extra income here and there. Plus it would give me extra incentive to really stay in shape!! ;D Thanks again for your help, Mo! (P.S. With your physique, I would think you WOULD be able to make enough money to support your future children, but hey, what do I know? ;D)

You dont like the idea of picking a agencie randomly? Fine that's why i suggest you to send your photos to aaaaalll the agencie you know and believe me, that wont be too much: Those that will show SERIOUS interests wont be majority anyway (That means the agencies that dont want to only use you to take your money with: Fees, additionnal photos shots, special tax or anything else they can imagine !) As far as magazines goes, i will tell them to contact me or to contact the agencie if they cant make business directly with a model! Mo

Thanks, Mo! So, basically it sounds like I need to finish getting into shape, get some professional pics done, and then start contacting agencies!
