Last week, while cleaning a pair of 100 pound dumbells for DB Inclines,I got the left one up with ease, but the right one dropped just an inch short of my shoulders and fell to the right side. After getting some kid to hand it to me, I did get a few reps, although I was a little spent from my first attempt at cleaning them, and from previous sets. I felt pretty good later as this was as heavy as I have ever gone before. Upon waking up the next day however, my left side lower back was killing me. I had no idea how this came about, as I felt no pain on the clean with the 100`s initially. Here it is a week later and I can hardly get my socks and shoes on,or sit for long periods at my PC as I often do! ;D Anyway,I guess squats, deads, rows, and cleaning heavy dumbells, is off my agenda until I feel better. I injured the same spot in my back a few years ago doing heavy hack squats!! All the exercises I so desperately need to do will have to be put on hold for now! Anyway,I`m thankful that I can at least train, but I am pissed that I always seem to run into a setback.........for a living!! If I didn`t have bad luck,I would have no luck at all!

That suxs tim. Just take it easy and let your back heal. Better to be able to walk with a little discomfort than not walk at all.

Thanks guy`s,I hear ya` loud and clear!! When I was younger I would have stupidly tried to squat and go heavy anyway but I have gotten just a tad wiser over the years! Not that much wiser, but a tad anyway.

Tim, I wondered where you were yesterday. It must be tough for you right now, but I just happened to be looking back at some old threads the other day, and remembered one about injuries. I know you are not a big supplement user, but you posted some info on glucosamin/chondroitin, which refers to great results for injury recovery. I wish I had tried it when I hurt my delt. it took months to come back from. Anyway, here is the thread, I hope you get better. timwescott.proboards18.com/index.cgi?board=healthy&action=display&thread=1085084081

Thanks Michael! I think it`s more of a pull in my erector spinae rather than a disc, joint,or spine problem. I did it once before and couldn`t squat right before a contest so I did 5-6 exercises for quads with no rest between movements until I completed them all. I folded a small hand towel and placed it on the area and put my lifting belt on tight as hell and I trained like a psycho ,and did really well that year too. The only thing I dread is my squats going back down again after all the hard work I`ve been doing but at least I can still train . It beats the proverbial blank I guess!!

Damn, that sucks Tim. Take it easy and hope you recover quickly.
I have been taking ibuprofen(motrin, advil) every day since the accident I was in a couple of weeks ago. The limit it says on the bottle right after the injury and now down to one a day. It helped a lot. I was also prescribed some vicodin but that stuff didn't seem to work as well as the ibuprofen, as crazy as that sounds.

Bother, if anyone knows about back pain, it is me... ouch man, I feel for you!!! Go see the doc and get ahold of some muscle relaxers and take it easy. I know you are not into drugs, but IN MODERATION, these could help you get back quicker. Also so see a massage therapist, the hot female thereapists always seem to work better for me ;D

Tim, Sorry to hear of your suffering. I had back surgery many years ago- either that or never walk again, but it sounds like you may have a muscle injury rather than spinal injury; hope you are back to normal soon, but do NOT try any direct-back related movements.

Thanks a lot guy`s,I`m sure it`ll pass but it does limit me a bit as to doing certain exercises. As Joe said I can do no bent-over rowing type exercises but I can still train which is a definate plus. I think I`ll try Jaxon`s solution and look for that sexy masuese! LOL Oh oh,here comes my wife! Hi honey. Seriously though,I know this will pass as I did have it previously and I`m pretty good at working around injuries. Thanks to everyone for their kind comments,I appreciate them .

Sorry to hear, Tim. I have on and off back problems myself and have to be very careful. Train smart and around it. Give yourself time to heal. From your older bro, be careful!!

Tough break Tim. I know that you are frustrated. Good luck with your rehab. I'm not going to offer any suggestions, because you've been around for a while and know your body better than any- one else.

Thanks Bob!! Actually it`s coming along pretty well after about 3 weeks of intense pain while doing certain things. I`ve been training around the injury and will most likely try squatting and dumbell rows next week. It`s feeling a lot better, thanks!!

Well Tim, sorry I'm so slow getting on this thread (seems like I'm always saying that to you ... I know how you feel. I had a similar occurrance after a back day... the next day I was doing my first set of BB curls for arms and I got this little "twinge" in my right center back. I thought nothing of it and did rep #2... hitch, pain, can't breathe... crap!! Was out for a couple weeks. Anyways, sounds like it's finally coming around and you're feeling a bit better. Glad to hear it!! Hope your lifts are "still there". Sometimes a person comes back stronger when they take a bit of an unplanned break. Best wishes T

Geez - I'm the last one here again.
Sorry about the back - that sure sucks...especially when you were so high on your squats lately.
I figure you've gained the maturity to not hurt yourself further. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Hi Tim
Just a note I tweaked my lower back about a week ago, It was a lower left side back injury I had about a year and a half ago when I did a deadlift. Well at work I twisted the wrong way and pinched it... This is my second week off from lifting I plan on returning on 09/6/04 .. It feels good put still have a little tingling in the toes... One thing I did do this time was went to a chiropractor a week ago. Im not a firm beliver in them and ever went to one, but a friend said this guy is good, so he said my left hip was out and after some bending, poping, and cracking three days later after the adjustment its healing very quickly... You might want to try it if it continues.. But find the right one first.. Some just take your money and run...
take it easy we shall both return to form we have nothing but time.... We shall fight another day

Vandamme,Thanks but my back as of this week is much better. Be careful and don`t set a date ,just train again when you can.I still trained but I worked around it,now I`m squatting and rowing heavy again, thank God!! I used to go to a chiropractor all the time back in Mass. but here my insurance doesn`t cover it. Be careful, and good luck .
