Who's in Your Corner?
by The House
Brothers, I wear many hats. I have done it all. We all start at the bottom of the food chain and try to climb up to make it. I can say I am working my way up now… I have cleaned old shi**y toilets before to put food on the table and support my bodybuilding lifestyle. Life is not what it seems to be on the surface, and not as good as some think. Yes there are ups and downs but most don't see what happens during the bad times. It's not that life is so bad, but it's just not that good.
As a bodybuilder I still have a day job and yeah, it sucks. But let me tell you, it pays the bills and puts the food on the table. Let's face it we all don't live the good life where we can train and not worry about anything else. I f**king punch the clock 40+ hours a week and still manage to train my ass off after work everyday. I don't live a pampered life. I cook all my meals. I set my clock. I kick my own ass in the gym. And I lick my own wounds. But I am not saying I have no support.
If you're a working bodybuilder, you've got to have people in your corner. I have a very supportive family and corner men. A good bodybuilder is very smart and must find people to help them in many ways. With a good team behind you, still you put the time in. I still am the one feeling every rep and each minute doing cardio. I am just saying I am not a pretty boy bodybuilder that has someone make his food or have a gofer get things for me.
As I get wiser and learn the game more, I have found out that you must have a good team behind you. This game is tough, and everyone wants a piece of what you got. This game is all about what are you doing for me now, not what have you done for me in the past. People will use you to get ahead, and sell you out for a buck and nothing comes free. In this game you must find people you can trust and build a relationship with them, grow with them, and trust them.
I have been had before, but you live, learn and don't forget. Remember brothers, as you get into the game, most people only want to better them by taking advantage of you. You got to find the few people you can trust and these are the people you put in your corner. As we each go on our journeys in this game, we must grow as a family and share all of our knowledge. Bodybuilders come from all different backgrounds and have many different connections. We grow and learn from each other. Dieting and supplements change and we learn from our mistakes how to get better and to continue to improve.
Each time you meet a bodybuilder, you must try and learn one thing. I am not saying to do everything everyone tells you but different things work for different people. If you try the same thing every time and expect different results then you are only fooling yourself. You must live and learn and don't be scared to make mistakes. Here is what I think… If you were perfect onstage then your goal would be met, and you would never need to compete again. Until then, keep trying new ideas and find what works best for you.
