Bison is one of the best tasting of all meats; this is my opinion, and apparently the opinion of many others, as this red meat has rapidly been appearing on the menus of fine restaurants throughout the world over the last decade. Its flavor is similar to prime beef, but sweeter and more tender. Bison also happens to be one of the most nutritious meats on earth, which is why I eat it more than any other meat, and recommend it so highly to you. Bison, also known as buffalo, is a highly nutrient dense food because of the proportion of protein and minerals in relation to its caloric value. One pound of ground bison, in fact, contains 34 grams of protein, while its fat, cholesterol and calorie levels are lower than other popular meats, as you can see in the chart below. Comparisons to other meat sources also show that bison has a greater concentration of iron as well as some essential fatty acids necessary for human health.

Caribou???!!!!??!!! Now I'm jealous.
I just picked up four pound of bison/buffalo tonight but I am going to go on the hunt and try to find better pricing on bulk orders.
Bison is also one of the best tasting meats in my opinion as well. Sort of a sweet and tangy flavor to me.

I sneak in some bison from time to time to change things up.
My other favorite is Ostrich. Tastes pretty good. VERY low fat, and is very lean. Tastes like steak.
Only draw back is that it is pricey........but worth the trade off in protein.

I don't eat a lot of red meat as my body has a slight problem digesting it, but if I go out and I see bison or ostrich on the menu I'm ordering it. My Ex is a chef and he orders from a local ostrich farm for his restaurant. I could get it cheaper through him if I wanted to but I figure if I'm gonna splurge, I might as well let the experts prepare it

Tiff!
I'm the same way with red meat. I just feel too bloated and feels like it takes forever to digest.
You will LOVE the ostrich. When I prepare it at home, there is NO fat left over on the grill! Tastes like a good steak if prepared right, and it's protein content is the highest I've seen on any red meat.
If you try it, let me know what ya think!

I used to eat a LOT of ostrich pre-contest but it stinks a little....OK a lot, if I cook it inside with the George Foreman. So I strayed from the ostrich and I actually like the bison much better. I get it for 7.50 for 2 pounds, ground meat. I found 1 place online I can get it slightly cheaper but the shipping consts would outweigh the savings. If any one knows where to find it for 2-3$$ a pound let me know!

I have red meat maybe once a month or so, and its Buffalo for me as well. I really love steak, but I'm the same way, takes forever to digest. Seems like I cant eat for a day after having it. Not so with Buffalo, tastes great, digests right, no bloat. I think I'll make some today since the kids want me to grill t hem some steak.

For me, I can eat steak all day every day and not have a single problem digesting it, being bloated or anything. I love the taste, texture, and variety too. But I also loves me some buffalo, venison (though a bit game-y for me at times), and ostrich too. Like others have mentioned, it's is a bit pricey, and usually the stores that carry it know they're the only ones that have it for miles around so they jack the price up. I've also ordered it online, from somewhere close to me, and the service was outstanding. Cheap, great quality, friendly service, and extremely fast service. Okay, so I know it's been a month since this thread was posted, but anyone that says anything, I have one thing to say/show V V V V V V V V #smileybansign8eq# #smileybansign8eq# #smileybansign8eq#

I can no longer eat regular beef. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it is both psychological (knowing all of the toxins that are in the meat) and physical (I just can't stomach it).
HOWEVER.... I can eat buffalo meat all day long. I grab mine from Whole Foods store.
Sauté up some onions, mix them with 2 packages of meat, mushrooms, fry it up, then add 2 cans of organic tomatoes sauce. Add hot sauce and some salad..... Great stuff!
