I have an empty house that we are planning to rent out next to OUR house. But if no one ever comes and rent it..i thought about making a home gym in the next door garage. Was wondering how much building a own home gym would be? I mean since right now i think i would need a powerrack, leg press, leg curl, a bench, a maybe a smith. Thanks

Depends on how much you want to spend.
All of those items can go anywhere from low 000s to 0000s. Assuming you are not buying in one go, you probably want to start with the power rack since it will likely be most useful. go with the equipment that will give you most bang-per-buck. power rack, barbells, bench, etc. Used will obviously be much cheaper. You might want to see if any gyms (particularly highschool gyms) are being refurbished near you, they often sell off old equipment real cheap.
don't forget the barbell + plates! again it's up to you how much you want to spend, you can find this stuff relatively cheap at used sporting good stores.

btw, if you are considering buying equipment from a big retail store like walmart, be sure to read the small print - they sell a power rack for 138 bucks that looks like a steal l but the safety pins can only support 210lbs!

I got six 45 pound Olympic plates at a yard sale for $27.00. I also got two benches and a small barbell, and about 200 pounds of plates really cheap at a tag sale. I just hope my car doesn`t die again this winter, and I have to use them again. It get`s cold way up north where I`m at!!

I have over 6 grand invested in my home gym. Most power racks can handle well in excess of 1,000 pounds.
I bought the majority of my equipment used also. You can spend well over a grand on just plates and db's.

Yes, GHR should come WAY WAY WAY before considering leg press, smith machine crappola.
Added to a power rack, dip station, DBs, and bench, you have a complete gym - better than many commercial gyms.

Wow, looking at that equipment list, 45Gs is a pretty good deal. There's some real nice equipmentin that list.
Youngblood, got to agree with you on the whole "we're just relocating" story, there were several news articles on it and it sounds like a lot of people got burned....
Completetly off topic, but the best gym and gym equipment I have ever seen is in the University of Nebraska atheltic department. The football team have unbelievable facilities.

YB,Kenny S. doesn`t post here ,and I have to agree with you on how he covers for Vic, although I do respect him anyway, but the obvious is still the obvious.
Sometimes a friends loyalty can`t see past that obvious........not too good IMO.
I don`t know the intricates of Vic`s story with his gym,but I hope there`s more to it than him just beating his patrons out of their cash.......that would be the lowest!
On a sidenote, the guy who ran the gym I trained at back home in Springfield Mass. pulled a similar stunt recently.
He ran a $99.00 special for a years membership, and then moved all equipment out overnight, and screwed a lot of people..... most of which considered him a friend.
He now lives in a neighboring suburb, but he`s too close to home to be safe!!
He also had landlord troubles and knew before he ran the special that he was moving.
