FOlks
I recently purchased these 2 dvd's. The production company is called video 4 and this is what you get,
volume 1- 1982 and 1983 Mr. Olympia along with a documentary of athletes preparing for the 1988 Mr. Olympia. Featuring Gaspari, Strydom, Bannout, Haney, Christian, ect
volume 2-1984 and 1985 Mr. Olympia along with a documentary of atheletes preparing for the 1986 Olympia. Gaspari, Plats, Richards, Beckles.
These two dvds run about 40 bucks and are more then worth it for what you get. The footage is old and the music is dated but WOW! Seeing platz and gaspari in the gym is awesome. It is much like the BFTO, but way more interesting.
If your old school like me, you'll love these videos.
I grew up reading about the 82, and 83 Olympia's. Many felt that Viator should have won in 82, and that Fox should have won in 83.
FOr me to actually see the footage, after reading so much about these epic battles was AWESOME.
All the posing routines were awe inspiring. Good music selections and gracefull movements. Watching Mohammed Makkay pose was a sight to see.
Haney placing 3rd in 83, and then later in 84 winning was very cool to see.
The interesting thing to see was how well conditioned the athletes were. I mean we think that ripped glutes and cross striated lower backs didn't come along until the late 80's, but these guys were ripped and shredded! Roy Callender had no skin!
My conclusion is that the guys from the early 80's were just as ripped, just not as big as the guys today.
And you know what, I am fine with that!
There were no DISTENDED BELLIES!
Everyone had good v-tapers and were well conditioned, not to mention how they carried themselves (like proffessionals).
Sergio competing in 84 was also a stand out to watch.
This is a piece of bodybuilding history that any fan would or should not miss!
