My friends,
Well, bad news.
At the gym last night, I totally tore my left bicep and tendon from the bone while dead lifting. Was in the ER until after midnight.
Was told it is a very bad tear, and a pretty serious injury.
My left arm is in a soft cast and sling from shoulder to my wrist.
I have to call an orthopedic surgeon today to see if/when I will need surgery to re-attach it.
Will advise when I can. Feel free to share this info.
As you may imagine, this has really hit me pretty hard. I am angry, sad, and very emotional. If anyone can share stories of others who may have had a similar injury, please tell me. Right now I feel very despondent and feel like my life has just been ripped away from me.
Say a prayer for me.
Frank

Damn Frank- not catching a break are you (to say the least).
Well- I don't what I can add other than my moral support. I don't have experience with injuries like that- but I know plety of folks who have suffered partial and full pec tears, delts and biceps, etc... and it seems like, while distressing, disheartening and a royal PAIN on every level, they recovered and returned to lifting.
Keep us posted- truly, you have my thoughts today.

Very sorry to hear this Frank. You will come back better then ever though.
I tore an Achilles tendon in 2002. I had planned on competing for the first time since 1997. The football season was amost over and I was going to start the diet immediately after. I tore the tendon in the next to the last game of the season. Had surgery two days later. Took 6 months to recover enough to train legs hard again but I came back almost as good as new.

Makes me sad to hear this Frank. Fernand, my training partner (65 y/o), tore is left bicep last year while doing seated rows. Yes it was painful and yes he had to take some time off from the gym but one year later, his strength was 100% back and he competed in a bodybuilding show! You can go through this Frank!

So sorry to hear about this Frank. That must have been a pretty bad moment.
I officially give you 2 days to be angry and sad. After that Frank wouldn't tolerate it, would he? After that, Frank would remember the lessons he has learned in the armed forces and in the gym. The lessons that teach us that we can overcome. That pain and adversity are the price we pay for freedom and success. That with discipline and commitment we control our destiny. That's what Frank would say, right?
Heal up Frank. I know you can, and I know you will.
A friend of mine from ages ago once thought he could do the iron cross - even though he was not a gymnast. He tried, and immediately tore both pecs. Two years later he competed in his first bodybuilding show, and won his class.

Hey, Fit, Eric, Mo, Carl, Gerry, Rubes, Karrie, Rich and Timmmy! First...thanks for the prayers...I will need every single one. 2nd ...typing with one hand is a pain! Lesson [glow=red,2,300] re-learned[/glow]: ALWAYS listen to your own body. So, this is what happened: A whole slew of stupid mistakes! In nutshell: was tired, new diet / was weak, head not in game, didn't warm up, was rushing, etc. Greg and ALL the other PL were great. Were right there on top of me, icing, wrapping, getting me into the car to the ER, visited in the ER, calling all day checking on me, etc. GREAT group of guys. Glad I set my records LAST month! Will be long recovery. Can't get in to see the ortho surgeon until next Thursday. Surgery will be required to re-attach the inner head of the bicep and tendon too. Was distinct tear and pop. Could physically see the muscle in half, part rolled up toward my delt, and part balled up at my elbow, with a prominent gap (looks like a flat tire) in between. Looked ugly and deformed. So much for bb symmetry in the future. Physically, can handle it. Time & patience. Mentally will be tough. Will need all your support to keep my head in the game. Thanks again for all the well wishes......time for drugs now .........and Rich.....Thanks Bro....for keeping me real! Love all of you!

Sorry to hear this Frank..........had something similar to Eric, but mine was not a complete tear. Good as new now. My brother tore his pec about ten years ago while warmming up with 135! He is training with me now and is staying with me exercise for exercise..weight for weight. You'll get past this.
Just make your mind up that you WILL be back and I know you can make it happen.

everybody...
thanks so much for all your replies....they all are helping tremendously. now if i can only get the ladies to kiss it and make it all better........ ;D (see, i haven't changed!)
went to the gym to finish my deadlift wo today........HA! LOL! kidding....did go to cheer my wife on thru her wo today. she still has her upcoming meet in july to prep for. i was the talk of the gym and everyone was very concerned and supportive. one of our trainers just happens to be best friends with my surgeon, and was going over his house tonight for dinner with he and his wife! Small world! i told her to put in a good word for me and tell him i want aggressive surgery and rehab.
[glow=red,2,300]does anyone out there have some articles on bicep/tendon tears, re-hab of same, stories of bicep injuries, etc? I want to read up on everything and anything on the subject. Any links to sites/articles would be GREAT![/glow] i might as well get to be an expert on the subject!
little sore tonight.....any twisting motion feels like i can feel the torn bi flapping around under the skin! can't wait to see the surgeon and git er done!
hmmmmm......now when should i plan my next meet ? hmmmmm
