I have a few...
-the new batch of young trainees in the gym are jumping on juice way too quickly and 99% dont even work the whole body nor eat properly.
-a friend of my brother's telling me how his brother had a punch up with some strongman guy and beat his ass(true story) but my reaponse was " its funny though if I get into a fight with a smaller guy and beat his ass I am a bully, yet if the smaller guy beats my ass he is a fu*king hero orsomething"
-the proliferation of swiss balls/balance boarda and I supect soon trapeze wires because they supposedly work the core/improve balance and stability. Umm yeah, if I can get someone to squat 1-2-3 times thier bodyweight they will learn balance and stability pretty goddam quick.
-how things used to be in this order...training, food, supplelemnts then drugs as the lastthing....now its drugs, supplements, training then food last.
-the constant debates about high volume/low volume training. I say do what works for you and keeps you consistent. Bottom line is if you do a program you hate but do it anyways because everyone else is or science proves it then you wont be training years from now.
PS thanks to TIm for reminding me of the board as I have been jumping between different computers at work and some aahole at work said I was looking at porn all day(not true, laughable when it comes from guys who cheat on thier spouses but i digress) hence havent been on all the boards I usually browse/frequent.
Nice to see things rocking in here
Till next time take your bee pollen and keep growing

How about when you're waiting to use the equipment, but you have to wait b/c someone's using the squat rack to do bicep curls, or the deadlift rack to do side bends with the Olympic bar, or the leg press to do calf presses?? Aaarrrggghhhh......

How about when you have to wait b/c someone's using the squat rack to do bicep curls I must admit, i am guilty of that on occasion. But it's only because my stupid gym doesn't have heavy barbells for curling. And I prefer to use a straight bar, rather than loading up a cambered bar. So i wonder over to the squat rack, and do a few quick heavy sets every now and then. please, don't ban me...

Milly, your post was right on the money!!
I for one, hate swiss balls, balance boards, and rubber bands, and the professional rep counters, who call themselves personal trainers, that advocate this nonsense, instead of strength training and cardio.
Back in the day, to work the so-called "core" we did abs and lower back work, and simply called it the trunk, or abs and erectors. LOL
What the hell!! ;D

LOL....I knew someone would probably reply and say "hey, but I do that!" Don't get me wrong, I use the Olymic bar for other stuff too; i.e. having to gerry-rig a t-bar in the corner, or for back rows since our bb's only go up to 115 too. It's just that we only have two squat racks there, and when I see someone doing bicep curls in there with a 10 lb. plate on each side, it gets aggravating. Oh well, one of these days I'll learn patience!

Rarely did I get to train someone using "real" weights at least until I'd had them for several weeks. Besides, the "hardcore" area scares most of the women!

I have my own personal training business, and would never work for a gym today, because they are no longer really what a gym should be anyway!!
Call me old, but back in the day, we did not have all the assclowns we have in the gyms like nowadays!!
Now it`s all about the money, back then a person opened a gym because they had a passion for the iron!!

Yep, it's all about the money, and how many PT packages you sell! They don't care if you're actually helping your ppl as long as they keep raking in the dough! But we digress.....

There is this guy that I see at my gym on Saturdays who I call "FAME" after the 80s tv show
He wears spandex green pants, under pink shorts, a white shirt under a white cutoff sweat shirt, and a red head band.
He uses REALLY wimpy weights, and it is quite amusing to watch him lift.

I curl in the squat rack because it's always open: no one squats at my gym...

In terms of dumb statements , I am a big fan of Mark Twain "It is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt". So I haven't asked a dumb question in the gym (on forums thats a whole other story...)
Whenever I have noticed something dumb happening at the gym it is ALWAYS at a downtown YMCA. I don't know what it is about those places but weird things always happen there. My favorite is a guy who worked on abs everyday for about an hour. After he did this he would then hit his forearms with short (maybe 18") bamboo canes. I overheard someone ask him what he was doing and he told them it improved his forearm vascularity....

I curl in the squat rack, just because I like to have the BB that I can take weights on and off of. I use different weights, so to me it's easier than using a pre-loaded BB and moving the entire thing and getting a new one. We also have 2 squat racks, PLUS a power rack, two hack squat machines, a leverage squat machine (that rocks!), 2 leg presses- so if you can't find something else to do while I do FIVE sets of curls, then something is more wrong with you than me. One time, I was using the power rack to do squats, and I had just started my ten sets of ten routine with 225. This guy wonders over and asks "How many more sets?" I reply 'Eight.' He goes wild "Eight?!?!?!" 'Yeah, there's other racks to use, what do you want to do?' I say. "Behind the neck presses." He left the gym after watching me do 5 more sets, pissed off. Okay, a squat rack is great for doing squats. But a little known tidbit about them- you can do behind the neck presses in them, standing BB presses, Lunges, curls, shrugs, and a whole variety of things, just like it was a power rack! If someone is using just the bar to do curls in the squat rack and taking 20 min breaks to talk to people, then I don't think it's okay. But otherwise, I'm one of those people Xena hates Rant over.

Aaarrrggghhhh...... calf presses on the leg sled are the best calf exercise that i've found so far, so deal with it! lol, but seriously, i use our gym's only leg press (not counting the vertical leg press) to do these, but there are only like 5 other people there, and they are all curling, lol
