Thanks, Chris. Just heard this myself. He was a great actor, and died of some type of cancer. He and his wife Joanne Woodward were married 50 years! He was a 9 time Oscar nominee and finally won his Oscar for Color of Money ( a sequel to the Hustler).
He will be missed. Sympathy to the family.
