Well guys The prejudging is over. Its between me and anther guy for the over 40 Master's division. Its going to be close you can never tell how the judges are going to call it. There is a guy in the over 50 class that is incredible. I don't know his name but apparently he has won at the Nationals before.
The light heavyweight class is a monster! I'm in over my head on this one I'm afraid. Out of 13 competitors 6 of them are pretty big and cut! Don't get me wrong,I think I can hold my own and not be embarressed but these guys are pretty good! We'll see, the guy I'm battling it out with in the Master's is in this class also. If I beat him in the Master's it will give my some indication of how I'll do in the open.
I'll update the results as soon as I can.

What a weekend! I ended up in second place in the master's division (over 40) I really thought it was close between me and the eventual winner.
I didn't make the top 5 in the lt. hwt. open class. It was definitely the most competitive class in the show. I can't say that I totally agree with the way judging goes at these contests. This isn't totally based on where I place, its just that shape and symetry doesn't seem to be a factor anymore. The guy who won the lt. hwt. had a big gh gut and poor leg development. I didn't even think he was a threat! Oh well it is a subjective sport!
I was happy with my conditioning this year, I felt like I improved my weak points somewhat. I told Tina that I don't think I could've done anything more to improve at this point. I feel like I've given it a good run in the past few years but the way the NPC is judging physiques now I don't think I'll ever fit the criteria. I'm going to look into the drug free organizations and concider training for one of those next year.
I don't mean to sound negative I'm just venting a little!
I did get some great pics and I will post them as soon as possible!

CONGRATULATIONS!
As an observer of this sport only, I've been hearing that complaint, that it's only about size now and not aesthetics, for several years.
It's too bad. I do see some guys coming along at the Olympia level who are being rewarded and they're more art than mass. Fingers crossed.
A great pay-off for all your hard work! #btrophysmiley2ee#

I know how you feel Joel. My first show was NPC, A very large gutted man with no symetry beat me like a red-headed step child. This years show was a drug tested show felt a lot better with my placing. You still did an awesome job. BIG CONGRATS

This little guy was amazing! He won the over 50 class as well as the overall master's division! His name is Francisco and he won the bantam wt. class at the National's back in the 80's. Oh yeah, he's 57 years old!

NICE! Awsome pics! Dude you ROCKED! I know you and I discussed all this earlier, but I cant tell you enough, what an inspiration you are! Whatever your placing ever may be. You work hard to have an amazing physique that most could only dream of achieving. I know its hard to accept placings. This is not everything though. You out did yourself once again! I am sure almost everyone here on WOTW would agree that this defines WINNER! Keep pushin Joel. I'll be right behind ya tryin to catch up!! P.S. I agree with trying your hand at a natty comp. I mean if you can do this well in the NPC, just imagine...... Wooooooo!!!

Congrats to you BOTH!
First to : TINA! You deserve a lot of thanks and a weekend away (hint-hint Joel!). To have a great supporter behind you is VERY important. I know...been there-done that! My wife told me that if I compete as a bodybuilder again, I have to find someplace else to live for the last 2 weeks of contest prep! (Good thing we compete as powerlifters together, huh?)
And Joel! Lots of hard work Bro, and strict dieting really paid out. YOU looked GREAT Brother! Inhale...big breath...nice meal....it's over! Re-look the prep, makes some notes, make the new plan while it's all fresh in your head.
I understrand about the NPC judging. Most of my shows went well, but some of the call-outs were questionable. There were a couple where I obvioulsy had the spot, but they "gifted" someone else! THat's just one of the reasons I started powerlifitng..me and the weights. I lift the bar or I don't. But, it's all part of the lovely organization we play in, ain't it?!? LOL!
BUT, you have the right idea. Your conditioning looked great! Hopefully you feel as good as you look too.
Now...job-well-done! Enjoy the meals to come. Go spoil your wife (you know she deserves it after this!)
Outstanding brother! Very proud of you!
WAY TO GO JOEL ! ! ! !

Joel,
Congratulations to such a high quality bodybuilder. Placement is secondary to competing against tough competition. You looked quite formidable and I am sure you caused a lot of concern in the in the minds of the others in your classes.

Outstanding photos, Joel. Agree with what you aid. With the exception of maybe a bit more fullness you were in top condition. looked cut and hard. It could have gone either way, but the judges' decision in no way minimizes your achievement. You are and always will be a champion. And I am so proud of you.
Your wife is lovely and you are both blessed. Love and support are the real rewards.

Thank you all for the kind words! As usual I am humbled by the support here on WOTW.
I've had a couple of days to rethink things and I realize how fortunate I am to be able to train and compete and it really doesn't matter about the outcome as long as I do my best!
I'm going to take a few days off, actually I'm supposed to go to a photo shoot this Saturday so I better watch what I eat the rest of the week so I don't look like a bloated pig! But I am looking forward to getting back in the gym and making improvements for next year!
