Today is Veterans Day.
I have served honorably for over 14 years in the U.S. Army, in numerous places in the United States and overseas. I was medically discharged as a disabled veteran due to a knee injury incurred on duty. Among my duties, was serving in the 3rd Infantry Division as a Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Operations Specialist, advising the commander on tactical use and defense of such wepaons. I also served as a Drill Instructor at Fort Jackson, South Carolina for two years. Among my travels were numerous sites in Germany, including Berlin (when there was an East and a West). During this time, I also had the mission of courrier (sorry, can't detail that one). I have travelled the Rhein and Mein Rivers, Been to Hitlers "Eagles Nest", and was also responsible for the capture of 4 Soviet Liasion Mission Solidiers.
Other places included, Fort Meade Maryland, Fort Carson Colorado, and Ft. McClelland Alabama. I've been to Exposive Ordiance Disposal School, Sniper School, Small Arms Maitnenance School, to name just a few.
My travels and duties were many, and if given the chance would do it all over again. I had volunteered for Saudi Arabia and Iraq, but do the my knee injury was considered "non-deployable". I have also incurred injuries from small arms fire as well.
I have met many wonderful people, and have a lot of joyous memories during those times. I am also fortunate that my family travelled with me for most of it.
Today is a day to remember all of those who have given the ultimate gift for all of us.
I read recentley that two entities have given their life for us....."the son of God, and a United States Soldier".
To those of you who serve, have family who serve, or who have served in the past....thank you for all you do for us, so that we may have the freedom we enjoy every day.
...and for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom...thank you......we will march together again one day....singing cadence on high...with the one who served along side us every day....the One's who's foot prints were in the sand....and carried us.
Peace.
Frank
