I was asked to be interviewed about my bodybuilding and powerlifiting career by the Health and Wellness Committee of the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals. They would like to publish an article about me in thier national newsletter.
The interview is tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
I'll be available for authographs by 3:00 pm. (LOL! hahahah!)

As you all know, it's not about me.
It's about how my lovely wife is my hero, and motivated me to get back in shape.
It's about showing others that neither age, or injury, can slow you down or stop you.
And it's about balance in life in ALL you do. Your health is your wealth.

Here is the excerpt from the Medicare Newsletter on the interview they did with me yesterday Health & Wellness Newsletter January, 2009 Vol. 2, Issue 1 Office of Medicare Hearings and AppealsFrank TatulinskiWhen trying to lose weight, weightlifting can be as important as cardio for burning calories. Increased muscle helps you burn calories more quickly. By adding weights to your work-out routine, you can be sure to shed that flab more quickly. When you think of weightlifting, many of you may think of our in-house expert, Frank Tatulinski. Frank graciously told me about the journey he shared with his wife into weightlifting and about their daily routine. Frank spent 14 years in the Army. He hoped to make his career with the Army. Unfortunately, he blew out his knee. He said he spent about 10 years sitting around and he and his wife both gained a considerable amount of weight. About 5 years ago, his wife decided to undergo gastric bypass. She lost a considerable amount of weight, and, together, she and Frank joined a gym. A trainer at the gym noticed that Frank was very goal oriented, so he suggested he try body building. Frank worked with one of the top trainers in the world in Columbus, Ohio. In Frank’s first body building contest he took third place! The contests work like this: 5 competitors take the stage and a position is called. All 5 do the same position and this goes on through an entire list of positions. In the evening, everyone comes back and does the same positions, but this time you are alone on stage and the positions are choreographed to music for 1-1.5 minutes. It takes 6 months to 1 year to prepare for one show. The diet is very strict. There is almost total carbohydrate depletion by the day of the competition. Frank’s wife was intrigued by body building; however, she had scars from her gastric bypass operation. She was also interested in power lifting, and a world power lifter at the gym offered to train her. In her first competition, she set four state records in her division! Frank also started training to become a power lifter. In his first competition on April 12, 2008, he set four world records in his division! Unfortunately, on May 29, 2008, he tore his left tendon right off his bone which caused his bicep to roll up. On June 6, 2008, he underwent surgery and is right back to where he was prior to the injury. Now he works out with others who have the same injury and is learning a new grip. In addition to being a winning body builder and power lifter, Frank has 30 years experience with martial arts. He is a certified sports nutritionist and certified trainer. His day begins between 3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. He and his wife take turns doing their cardio workout and getting ready for work. He arrives at work around 6:00 a.m. Between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. his wife picks him up and they go straight to the gym where they work out until about 7:00 p.m. Then they come home, eat dinner, and unwind. Frank follows a very strict diet which includes six meals a day high in protein and some complex carbohydrates. I asked him what advice he would give to anyone trying to lose weight. He said to start slow. He suggested eating clean, by eliminating all the bad foods, fast food, etc. He recommended going to your physician to discuss the diet, because different things could slow down your progress, i.e. high blood pressure. He said to keep your cardio simple at first and start with 30 minutes 3 times a week. He said not to expect results too quickly. If you lose weight too fast, you will gain it back just as quickly. Normal weight loss should be 1-2 pounds per week. He suggested pre-making and pre-measuring all your food on Sunday, just as he does. He also gave important information about selecting a gym. He really recommended shopping around for the gym that suits your needs. He said not to get misled by the gym’s trainers or salespeople. He said most gyms should offer a one to two week trial period. He suggested using that period to go at all different times of the day to see how busy it was and to talk to the people who use the gym, because they would tell you the truth. He suggested taking pictures of yourself before you start your diet and as you make progress because scales can lie, but pictures can’t! At the beginning of Frank’s journey he had 40% body fat. After 1 year to 18 months his body fat was decreased to 13%. I was amazed by Frank’s daily dedication. He sticks to a strict diet and strict exercise regimen. I think any of us who are trying to reach our own goals can look to Frank as an inspiration. Thanks Frank!
