Wondering . . . . I've read all the ketogenic data I can find here and on Lyle McDonald's books, etc. BUT . . . does anyone have experience with the difference in training with a cyclical ketogenic program (CKD) vs a targeted ketogenic program (TKD)? I know what they are, and how they work. I'm looking for anyone's experience with them and their thoughts on how it worked for them. When (if ever) I get my BF where I want it with CKD, I was wondering of a TKD program is better for maintenance? What's the big dif between TKD and carb cycling? Any thoughts guru's?

If you cut carbs too low for too long you're going to feel like crap for sure. I would recommend carb cycling. There are different ways of doing it of course. I've always gone 3 days low 1 day high. Don't over think this too much just do it gradually. In the end its a matter of calories taken in versus calories expended. The advantage of low carbs is limiting insulin response so body fat can be burned more efficiently.

Mrky gives sound advice....
...I've differed slightly in that I usually will just keep my carbs lower till the weekend and have one all out binge day. Though, recently I've been messing around with different things with good success. I changed my split from a 2-on-1 off-2 on -2 off scheme, to have 3 on-one off-2 on 1 off split. Couple this with having one cheat meal on my first day off, and then the all out binge day on the second day off, seems to keep things revving at high speed.

I agree with the 3 day low 1 high but I also do things a bit different at times. Some weeks will be a taper from the high point taper for 2 days, stay low for 1-3 days, then taper backup and repeat. The nice thing is I can gauge how low I can go on the low days by feel and look. Usually I'll drop to very low/keto when approaching a show. the 3 low days may be 25/0/25 or 0 straight through.
A typical 7 day may be 100/50/25/0/25/50/100 or 100/50/0/0/0/50/100 Just depends on where I am and how my body is adjusting

The first week or two I went 5 days very low 0-10. Then went all out on Friday after a full body glycogen depletion workout. Tapered off Saturday, and ate a good breakfast Sunday, and went back to 0-10. It went ok, but probably ate way too much on Saturday.
Last weekend I did the same but waited to glycogen deplete and all out carb pig out on Saturday. On Monday, I had only gone up one pound on weight. Will try the same this weekend, and just clean up the carb up a bit to see what happens.
Want to break below 170 by May 1st. (started at 189).
