Hard to believe, but this film goes back to 1974. And it is just as hilarious today!!
In her memoirs, Cloris Leachman revealed that Gene Wilder had the idea of the horses whinnying at the mention of Frau Blucher before she was even cast in the role. She thought it would be funny to make her character severe and scary looking with the thick make up and mole. And Mel Brooks and Wilder agreed.
Many assumed that the whinnying had to do with the horses' fright of her. But in German, blucher means glue and Wilder imagined the horses reacting to winding up in a glue factory.
Anyone who has not seen Young Frankenstein, rent it and enjoy. Still a riot today!
